It would be helpful if img could take a src that is the raw image bytes to use rather than a filename. E.g. if the image has been created or modified in memory, or otherwise does not exist as a file. This could be done with a data: url similar to how svg allows it.
I've created a patch for this that works, but didn't want to submit it as a PR since agents.md says to open an issue first.
