ATypI (Association Typographique Internationale) is an international non-profit organization dedicated to typography and typeface design. Our annual conference has taken place every year since 1957. For 2026, we have two full conferences — the first in Stanford University took place in May.
Our second conference of 2026
ATypI 2026 Sharjah will take place October 28–31 at the University of the Arts Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.
ATypI 2026 Sharjah will mark the first ATypI conference in Southwest Asia and North Africa (SWANA). Sharjah, one of the seven emirates of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), is known for its vibrant art sector, and is globally respected for both the heritage and the future of Arabic calligraphy: the Emirate conserves the world’s most significant collection of Arabic manuscripts. At the University, typography including type design, visual communication and publishing are popular courses in the College of Design, Academy of Visual Arts.
