Tripura plans Gomati River-based water supply project

Government of Telangana,
Multiple, Tripura

Budget: NA

Current Status: Under Implementation

The Manik Saha-led government has proposed a major water supply initiative under the Tripura Water Grid project to ensure safe, sustainable, and long-term drinking water security across the state. The plan focuses on utilissing surface water from the Gomati River to supply treated potable water to key urban centres including Udaipur, Bishramganj, Bishalgarh, and Agartala. The proposal was reviewed in a high-level meeting chaired by the Chief Minister, where officials discussed strategies to reduce Tripura's heavy dependence on groundwater sources. The shift toward surface water is expected to significantly improve drinking water standards and ensure a more reliable supply system. Under the first phase, surplus water from the Gomati River will be treated and transported through a large-scale pipeline network integrated with modern water treatment infrastructure. The broader Tripura Water Grid vision aims to connect 12 rivers across the state into an integrated supply network, capable of serving both urban and rural populations. The initiative is expected to address long-standing concerns over groundwater depletion, improve water quality, and strengthen overall water security across Tripura.

Apollo Tyres plans to invest Rs 3,000-cr for greenfield plant in Tamil Nadu

Apollo Tyres,
Chennai, Tamil Nadu

Budget: ₹ 3000 Cr.

Current Status: Under Implementation

Apollo Tyres intends to explore the establishment of a greenfield manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu as part of its long-term expansion strategy. This reinforces the state's growing aim to become India's leading automotive manufacturing hub beyond Chennai. The proposed project, expected to involve an investment of over Rs 3,000 crore, is being discussed with the Tamil Nadu government, which is actively identifying suitable land parcels in the southern region for what is classified as an ultra-mega industrial project. The company already operates a major manufacturing facility at Oragadam near Chennai, along with plants in Kerala, Gujarat, and Andhra Pradesh. Industry sources indicate that Apollo Tyres is currently operating close to peak capacity, with utilisation levels around 90 percent, making additional capacity expansion a strategic necessity. While discussions for the Tamil Nadu facility are ongoing, the company has also indicated that it continues to evaluate multiple locations for future growth. The development comes amid increasing automotive and tyre sector investments in southern Tamil Nadu, including major commitments by MRF and Yokohama Rubber. The region is rapidly evolving into a specialised automotive and auto-ancillary cluster, supported by infrastructure connectivity, port access, and industrial corridor development.
