Caroline Flashback have recently started playing the 'wrong' version of England Swings by Roger Miller (i.e. not the original single release) and tonight, Johnny played that same retread on Caroline North. I'm sure I'd have heard the song on both stations many times before now but wouldn't have thought twice about it if it…

Nice to hear them pay tribute to the Droitwich long wave transmitter and play Sailing By towards the end tonight, It seemed somewhat appropriate to hear it coming from a ship!
-
Just to confirm what has already been posted in a different thread, Broadland has now moved over to DAB+ stereo on the Norfolk mux at 40kbps.
-
I noticed a Sing Something Simple CD on the shelves in a charity shop recently as part of a '5 for £1' offer and it was there for some time! :D

Tom Nunan confirmed this morning that he is the new permanent early breakfast presenter, after quite a long period when the position has been unfilled. He has been covering the vacant job quite frequently in recent months, alternating with James Kitchin. He is already well known to listeners as one of the news team.

I wish I hadn't bothered now! And did they say it was anchored off Scarborough???

Just looking at the details for Footage Detectives at 5 p.m on Talking Pictures TV this afternoon and one of the items is a feature on Radio North Sea International.
-
I remember my local, Postwick, which had a new transmitter added on 693 (still in service now) having the new transmitter on air in the middle of the day before the changeover, transmitting Radio 4. Would they have had to set up these new transmitters to run before the changeover without the 1kHz adjustment, and then make…

Was that possibly deliberate - a nod to the days when there were six short pips?
-
Boom Radio currently playing the UK Theme.
-
And a bit coming up on the 6 0.clock news.

Update - Suffolk has switched to 32kbps at 10.40. :)
-
10.20 and GHR Suffolk is still 112kbps.
-
And the feature was cut off before the end by the retune announcement!
-
It's a long time ago but I think I was actually listening and whilst I can't recall what was said before midnight, I have a distinct memory that the plug wasn't pulled quickly enough, and David Symonds' welcome to long wave listeners was also still going out on medium wave, at least for a short time - I think I did hear it…
-
That was one occasion when, if you wanted to hear the whole three hour programme, you had to retune. The first hour was on long wave only, with Radio 1 having the VHF network, then at midnight you had to switch to VHF as all the medium wave transmitters were off.

Confirmed, GHR Norfolk now 32kbps.

There were two PM presenters for a short time when it started, but for most of the 1970s it was just the one, who also did World At One. Bill Hardcastle died in 1975, and up to that time it would either be him, Gordon Clough or Robert Williams - not the same one who posts here on DS! He lived here in Norfolk and his…

In the 1970s, the same presenter would present both World at One and PM - presumably it was the same production team as well.

DAB+ promo just heard on Greatest Hits Norfolk.

I see Newshour is presently in the WS schedule at 2100 GMT which is 2200 BST. Does it shift its broadcast slot when the clocks go back in the UK from October to March?
-
'Broadland', on the Norfolk mux at present at 80kbps mono, has announced this morning that it will be converting to DAB+ on July 1st.
-
Is there any obvious reason for them to do that - I'm thinking perhaps there might be parts of that area where SDN coverage is patchy? They may have got a good deal for carriage of all three services that wasn't a lot extra than the price for just two. (Edit - I've just realised it's the Quentin Howard connection!. :D )
-
Presumably it makes the project more cost-effective overall, with the benefit probably more evident during the lower generation periods (early/late in the day and all day during the winter months) when they might previously not have achieved as much independence from the grid as they will. From what they have reported in…

Caroline Flashback now has more presenter- hosted shows with Johnny Lewis between 8 and 10 a.m. but according to the schedule this will only be on Monday Tuesday and Friday as Wednesday and Thursday he continues with his 12 till 2 show. Ray Clark is now on 10 till 12, seven days a week it would seem. His retirement is…

I've been listening to Times Radio overnight, and all the way through this morning the 'half past the hour' news bulletin has been a repeat of yesterday, with the headline story being Miliband about to approve new oil and gas projects, and the Artemis mission about to decide whether to go ahead with the engine burn that…

That last sentence - very interesting. I've been wondering for some time now whether I am the only person who is slightly worried about the way the word 'paedophile' seems to have been hijacked in quite recent times by society in general to mean something other than was originally intended? Look it up and a dictionary will…

I suppose it could be that they hope to increase awareness of the station amongst potential listeners who never stray from the BBC when it comes to news and current affairs. It's amazing how many people who might find Times Radio a useful addition to their radio listening just don't have it on their radar at all, and even…

Times Radio has announced it has secured exclusive rights to radio coverage of the Boat Race. More details in the breakfast show this morning.

The Monday repeat of Footage Detectives is a few weeks behind the one shown on Sunday. It looks as if the one from yesterday is due to be repeated on Monday March 2nd.
