death of cinema discourse
Jul. 21st, 2026 02:23 pmChoices currently are:
- Disclosure Day
No one I've seen review this has actually enjoyed it. - Evil Dead Burn
Don't like horror. - The Invite
Don't like Seth Rogan. - Minions & Monsters
Look, just because the first Despicable Me movie was cute, doesn't mean we have to go this far. - Moana
LoL, no. (Which is too bad, as I loved the animated one.) - Obsession
Don't like horror. - The Odyssey
Off Nolan forever. - Toy Story 5
Haven't seen any of the others, and this doesn't seem like a good place to start.
Choices next week are some combination of the above, plus:
- Dog Man
LoL, no. - Her Private Hell
Don't like horror. - Ishqnama
Keep threatening to get into Bollywood because at least it has subtitles, so maybe this will be the movie? - Spider-Man: Brand New Day
Didn't like this plot in the comics, haven't seen the last several Spider-Man movies.
There are a couple movies I would have liked to see on the big screen, notably the lesbian Metis coming of age story Blood Lines, but we either didn't get it, or I blinked and missed the two days it was showing. It's basically impossible to see Canadian movies unless they're a very rare breakout, or they ship without subtitles, or you're in a city big enough to have an art house cinema. I by myself cannot afford to support the whole industry, and even when they do show up here, it's a depressing sitting in an nearly empty auditorium experience.
I'm genuinely happy that the horror fans are having the year of their lives, and I don't want to add to the hand wringing about the squeamish having nothing to see, but :(

✨ Tuesday: Things We Don’t Name ✨
Jul. 21st, 2026 01:42 pmSome things carry too much weight to say aloud. Maybe it's a fear no one will admit, a monster no one dares name, a feeling someone can't put into words, or a secret that gains power every time it's spoken. Whether the name is forbidden, forgotten, unknown, or intentionally avoided, today is all about the things left unsaid—and the stories that grow around them. 👤🤫🌑
📌 Just a few rules:
✏️ No more than five prompts in a row.
🎭 No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
📝 Use the character's full name and fandom's full name for ease in adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
⚠️ No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option.
📚 If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the spoiler cut option.
Prompts should be formatted as follows:
[Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt
Some examples to get the ball rolling…
🐺 Teen Wolf, Derek Hale/Stiles Stilinski, Everyone warns Stiles never to say the name hidden beneath the Hale House—but curiosity gets the better of him.
🌊 Hawaii Five-0 (2010), Danny Williams & Steve McGarrett, The team keeps referring to "the incident" without ever saying exactly what happened, and Danny is determined to find out why.
🚀 Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Christopher Pike & Spock, There's one word the crew refuses to speak while on a particular planet, and Spock wants to know the reason.
We are now using AO3 to bookmark filled prompts 📚✨. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2026 collection. See further notes on this new option here.
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? 🤔 You can use LJ’s advanced search options to limit keyword results to only comments in this community. Fret not, DW members 💙; we are working on a way to search through old entries for prompts for you! As of right now, the best way to search for a lonely prompt on DW is to search the community’s archive, which can be found [[HERE]].
While the use of LJ's advanced search and DW’s archive are options, bookmarking the links of prompts you like 🔖 might work better for searching in the future.
As a friendly reminder about our schedule ⏰, Lonely Prompts and sharing completed fills are encouraged on Sundays 🌿, while new themes and prompts are posted on Tuesdays and Thursdays 📅. Saturdays are a Free for All day 🎉. We'll share our posts on DW and LJ for everyone's convenience. Keep an eye out for notifications! 👀
If you have a Dreamwidth account and would feel more comfortable participating there, please feel free to do so…and spread the word! 📣
