Jason Hawes just did an interview with Stevi Etes of the Truth or Demon podcast. She has been doing ongoing investigations into the Warrens and has found old articles about and even by them, calling into question a lot. Well, calling more into question. The Warrens were horrible people, this is well established and widely accepted.

Anyway, this interview is interesting for a few reasons. Some bastards, including maga shill Matt Rife, own the Warren's museum and have an agreement for the contents. They do not own the contents, just the building, but they are currently making money from the Anabelle doll.

Jason Hawes, well the courts say he now owns The Conjuring House. The bastards (I'm not bothering to look up their names, just going to call them this) bought the debt thinking that would snipe ownership, and are refusing to accept the money from Jason to pay off the mortgage. Courts say that house is Jason's, but there is still at least one more legal hiccup. But almost all the barriers between Jason and owning the house have been resolved.

This interview establishes that the Warrens were not the first to investigate the Conjuring House, earlier investigators were pushed out. Basically, de-coupling Jason's new property and the Warrens a bit.

The Bastards are all-in on making money from the Warrens, while Jason is trying to separate himself from them. If this gets traction, it builds Jason's interests and weakens the investments of the bastards.

All that aside, The Warrens were shitty people and that's well established in any paranormal space with a drop of seriousness.

Also, Ed Warren if he where a computer file he'd be a PDF.

Ed Warren was well know to be in a long term relationship with his niece, a relationship that started when she was 15. Judy, the 'secretary' in the books, is the niece/mistress. This was very openly known by a lot of people.

It's a good interview on it's own, and Stevi's podcast sounds like it would be fun if I had the time for it. But there is an interesting undercurrent if you know about the Conjuring House stuff.

How fruit helped birds become more colorful and charismatic

Manakins act like small tropical birds with something to prove. Males moonwalk backward along branches, snap their wings like tiny castanets, and wear feather colors that look almost synthetic. Females gather to watch these performances before choosing a partner.

All that showing off burns real energy, and the fuel behind it comes mostly from fruit, which these birds pluck and swallow whole across the warm forests of Central and South America.

Today is partly cloudy and quite warm, but less hot than recent weather. :D

I fed the birds. I've seen a mixed flock of sparrows and house finches, two mourning doves, and a male indigo bunting trying to enter the south window of the living room.

I put out water for the birds.

This week, a sticker I bought at the Roxborough State Park visitor center/ranger station. We always stop in in case there've been any interesting wildlife sightings, and I usually end up buying a little sticker or pin or something.

This was a pretty good week. It felt pretty mellow, and I didn't have much of a "to-do"/goal list. I did a decent amount of reading, caught up (mostly) on reviews (so I hope not to be scrambling at the end of the month to get them finished.) I still didn't get anywhere on my reading page, which is the thing that's consistently gotten shuffled to the bottom of the list. I did a few responsible things, enough to feel good about. We went on a couple nice walks, despite the awful heat. Pretty much caught up on Dreamwidth after my inbox got out of control, lol. This week did sort of show me that all the "daily" or "ongoing" stuff - the reading, writing up reviews, posting, staying caught up - is a lot easier when I have a shorter list of other things I'm trying to do.

So, I did it. I bought tickets to the Kraken's Pride Night game in February.

Yup, plural. I am betting on finding someone to go with somehow. But also, I didn't buy normal tickets I bought the 'barstool seating' which is behind the normal seats, but it's a bit higher and you get like a bar to sit at for your beer, food, etc. You can stand without blocking anyone. I am actually really happy getting those tickets. The seats are also more spread out. But, they are cheaper for a reason. Not everyone is as into the idea as I am. If I can't get upper bowl first row, lower bowl barstools are my second choice.

The second seat not being a normal seat is going to complicate finding a taker for the ticket, but going with someone to this event is what I want so here's hoping.

It went well! The curse is broken. And I think I've been to all Portland bridges now?

I was going to fucking rest today because I need a day where I'm not working or walking 5 miles or doing other stuff. But, the air was still good here today so I tossed my ass out the door. That, and it's supposed to be a hundred degrees tomorrow.

Who knows what will happen, but figured I'd get while the gettin's good.

Finally, my last post catching up... from June.

This was a pretty hot day, so we decided it was a good one to go to one of the dog-free State Parks, and let Bella stay home in the air conditioning. (We even left her loose as a test, as we usually do put her in her kennel. She did great! This was actually day two of her doing great while loose, because we left her out when we went to a movie the previous day. This was slightly longer, and she was fine.)

We did the Fountain Trail (the one that goes past the old house, and through some of the rock formations.) It was a good day, but it really was too damn hot. I did all right—I do think that the mostly daily work walks, as short as they are, have been helping me a bit—until the very end of the hike. The last half a mile or so was rough for me. It really was just the heat, which seemed to get to me way more than it usually does.

This is apparently all that remains of what used to be the town of Silica, Colorado. It was apparently pretty short-lived (1904 - 1916, according to a helpful informative sign), which mined limestone, feldspar, and clay in order to make bricks. The brick structure here is the lime kiln. It has been restored, with stabilization efforts completed in 2018.

This essay, "the Empowered Multiple," was originally printed in Kinships Magazine, Vol. 1 Issue #3, from 2001, pg. 8-9 (numbers on paper, not the PDF). Pyatthemouse digitized the issue but it wasn't screenreadable, so I decided to copy it here for posterity so people could read it now, off the Wayback Machine!

Yes, this essay was also posted on www.darkpersonalities.com and in December 2000, on the authors' personal site. The authors, Teresa and JJ, ran a website, www.multiplicity.ca, where they talk about things like how a Dragon Riders of Pern MUSH (multi-user fandom story RP) connected them to headmates, and the murder and rebirth of a headmate, Shandra.

i won’t lie, sometimes i’m very nervous commissioning people, but only because i’m just… not the best with communicating lol.

i don’t have many visual references of my characters, specifically full bodies, so i have to go with detailed descriptions and other visuals such as clothing references i find online, but even then i get so nervous because i don’t want to sound like i’m demanding or pushy.

for example my new yumesona, nico, is the very first character of mine to have a full body art piece done of them but that’s because i had a dress reference for them and they’re also barefoot/don’t wear shoes. they have a picrew on their profile, but now they have a full body so i can use it when commissioning others to draw them.

but ciel currently doesn’t have one, and i have a hard time trying to explain their physical appearance. thankfully one artist is lenient and willing to go off by description, though i did send some online references of how i imagine ciel’s full-body appearance.

it really doesn’t help that i have partial aphantasia. 😔

at this point i should probably bookmark as many full-body picrews as i can despite almost none of them having accurate visual representation of my characters, especially my characters of color and one of my characters in a wheelchair.

Hyperion by Dan Simmons. This had many interesting building blocks. Post-Earth universe has a weird as fuck planet called Hyperion which has multiple mysterious archeological sites and a cryptid monster that kills people. Seven people are selected to go on a pilgrimage out to the monster and they tell their messy, interwoven backstories on the way. I was in like the last 30 pages of this when I was like okay there is absolutely no way this is wrapping up in 30 pages and lo it is a 4 book series. Anyway, compelling, but if you don't like any of the character backstory vibes you are somewhat screwed because you're trapped within each one for like 80 pages.

I have been going to the gym more which is good but I still want to do better and lose some of the weight gain that's been slowly creeping up on me and making me feel critical about myself (particularly in photos even though I know literally no one cares, ugh) so I'm going to try these Body Project workouts again. I think I was doing these during peak Covid time and they were short and simple but surprisingly taxing. Wish me motivation. [ETA: Damn, okay I did not fully remember how challenging these were lol. Will be wearing more appropriate gear next time but I did it!]

Someone has digitized Issues #0, 3, and 4 of Kinships Magazine, the magazine "for people who exist anyway." These issues run from 2000 to 2001.

"Kinships was the first in print magazine for Otherkin [people with nonhuman identities, namely mystical beings like elves, angels, etc.] and other 'people who exist anyway'" (Joyner, 2006 May 10a). It was "a quarterly magazine of stories, comics, reviews, and poetry" (Joyner and Silva, 2001 April 7) and ran for eight issues, including Issue #0.

Though plurality was not a focus, otherkin plurals did take part in the magazine--most notably Criss Itterman, AKA the Crisses of Kinhost (Joyner and Silva, 2000 October) and Doltaghey House, writing under the name Ficanoss (Various, 2001 fall).

I saw a gray catbird trying to break open a beetle. Without direct sunlight, I couldn't tell for sure, but some sort of small scarab mostly likely a junebug or Japanese beetle. This catbird had somehow figured out that, although the outside was armored, the inside was tender and delicious. The bird mostly hurled the beetle at the pavement and pecked at it. Sometimes it held onto the beetle and thrashed it against the ground. This caused the beetle to bounce around a lot. The catbird never lost track of its prey, even when the beetle bounced into a pile of leaves. Impressive. Eventually the beetle broke open enough for the bird to take a bite, then fly away with it.

It's intriguing to watch how predators learn. Ten years so so back, when the Japanese beetles first arrived, nothing ate them and they devoured every green thing in sight. I spent several years saying, "Dear insectivores, I know that these are unfamiliar to you, but I swear they are insects and therefore your food." Then one summer several beautiful new types of wasps appeared in swarms on my sedum and garlic chive flowers. Looking them up, I discovered they were parasitoids who all prey on scarab beetles. The next year the junebugs and Japanese beetles were fewer, and their populations have fallen since. :D

'The dull bit' is a common, but unfair, description so says the guidebook. I'd say it was definitely unfair, unless you are exclusively focused on hills and mountains. This was/will be the shortest and flatest leg of our holiday by some way.

Understanding the Climatarian Diet

The climatarian diet centres how you buy, prepare, eat, and store food on reducing greenhouse gas emissions while still enjoying a variety of foods prepared simply. Plant-based foods tend to have the lowest Carbon Cost, so the climatarian diet encourages at least 75% of your plate to be plant based.

Some extra points here:
* Grow at least some of your own food if you can. This eliminates shipping.
* If you grow landrace crops, they can adapt to climate change, plus you don't need to buy seeds or seedlings for those anymore.
* Farmer's markets, farmstands or truckstands, U-Pick farms, and Community Supported Agriculture are good alternatives for locally grown foods.
* Also watch for local products at grocery stores, especially health food stores or food co-ops.
* Prefer climate-resilient crops, whether you grow or buy them.
