Our clients
SoftTeco’s IoT projects
IoT-enabled lighting management system modernization
C2 Smart Light is an IoT product that allows users to turn on/off connected devices and monitor their status remotely. Customers can create control programs for lighting networks that automatically adjust light intensity based on season, time of day, and natural light levels. We built a new interface, redesigned the UX, and created a scalable backend for the system. With our solution, the client reduces energy use by up to 20% and lowers CO₂ emissions.
Robots-as-a-service system modernization
SoftTeco modernized an IoT-based system which collects and processes real-time data from industrial robotic arms. It handles continuous sensor data streams, including robot status (online/offline), task execution, usage, and performance metrics. We optimized the backend to handle high-volume data and ensure reliable ingestion through AWS IoT services. Today, the system powers a fleet of 5k+ deployed robots with 99.8% uptime, ensuring reliable large-scale operation.
IoT football training system development
SoftTeco created a cross-platform application for football coaches and players. An IoT-based system helps players improve their football skills via sensors connected to a rebounder platform via Bluetooth to set up and manage drills. With it, the coach can use ready-made or custom drills and track players’ progress during training sessions.
IoT-based wildlife protection app development
SoftTeco built a native iOS application that connects to thermal sensors on mowers via Bluetooth and processes real-time wildlife detection results. When animals are identified, the system sends alerts, records events, and logs GPS locations for each detection. It also allows users to configure sensor settings and manage sensitivity directly in the interface, with support for automatic reconnection and offline data storage.
Our IoT development process
Internet of things application development is a multi-layered process. To ensure timely delivery within budget, we follow a transparent and effective IoT development process.
Step 1. Discovery and project planning
We define clear and realistic business goals to achieve through IoT development. For this, we conduct an in-depth market analysis and assess your business needs to develop a detailed plan that outlines the project scope, development team, timeline, resources, risks, and key deliverables at every stage.
Step 2. Design IoT architecture
We create a detailed architecture plan of an IoT solution. For this, we decide on devices, connectivity options, and how collected data will be stored, processed, and analyzed. We also select visualization tools and software platforms, define system governance, device management policies, and security mechanisms.
Step 3. IoT solution development
We start by creating an MVP for the IoT solution to validate the concept and then develop a full-featured software. Our developers build all components of the IoT system, including device connectivity, the IoT backend, frontend, cloud infrastructure, data storage, processing, and analytics, along with robust security mechanisms.
Step 4. Integration and testing
Our specialists integrate the designed IoT system with all necessary external systems and the enterprise platforms and tools using prebuilt APIs and middleware. We also conduct comprehensive testing of IoT solution components, including software, network, data, and cloud infrastructure.
Step 5. Deployment
We run a pilot deployment in the selected environment to validate IoT system performance and functionality under real-world conditions. Once the solution is fully tested and approved, we proceed with full-scale deployment across the entire production environment to ensure it works as expected.
Step 6. Support and maintenance
Our team provides ongoing support and maintenance for your IoT solution to keep it highly functional, secure, and up to date over time. During this stage, we monitor system performance, update firmware and software, conduct security audits, resolve upcoming issues, and implement improvements.
Our IoT architecture design
During IoT development, we follow a six-layer structure that can be customized and optimized to meet different companies’ needs. This scalable architecture allows adding new functional modules or devices without overspending or significant development effort.
Perception layer
The process layer includes sensors, actuators, RFID tags, cameras, QR codes, and smart devices. It is used to collect raw data from the physical world and enable the system to interact with it. These smart devices can capture data (sensors) and take action (actuators) or sometimes both.
Connectivity layer
The communication layer ensures the reliable data transfer from devices to central processing or storage systems. It includes a combination of wired and wireless communication protocols, such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Zigbee, LoRaWAN, NB-IoT, and 5G cellular networks, as well as internet gateways and edge devices.
Data processing layer
The data processing layer converts raw input data from sensors and devices into operational intelligence for further analysis. It performs data normalization, aggregation, cleansing, and storage, preparing the information for further analysis. The layer consists of databases, data centers, big data warehouses, and analytics platforms, AI and machine learning algorithms, and more.
Application layer
The application layer turns data into user-facing applications or integrates device insights into business workflows. It provides dashboards, visualization tools, mobile, web solutions and APIs. They allow users to manage devices, present collected data, generate insights, automate processes and connect with external systems.
Process layer
This layer ensures that the IoT system runs smoothly, securely, and in compliance with standards and regulations. It works as a central control point that connects business rules, operational processes, and system management functions.
Security layer
The security layer protects the IoT system, network, cloud, and data at every stage of development from unauthorized access, attacks, and data breaches. From the ground up, companies can incorporate various security mechanisms, such as authentication, encryption, access control, network segmentation, software updates, and continuous monitoring.
IoT development challenges and how we solve them
Integration complexity
IoT solutions connect with corporate systems, cloud platforms, APIs, legacy systems, and third-party services. Their integration can be difficult as IoT devices and software from different vendors rely on different standards, communication protocols, and use various data formats. To avoid IoT integration issues, we:
- Normalize and validate data formats
- Use standardized communication protocols, like MQTT, HTTP/HTTPS, and CoAP
- Apply middleware and APIs
- Use modern data integration platforms, like AWS IoT Core, Azure IoT Hub
Security and privacy problems
IoT systems are more vulnerable to attack because they handle large amounts of personal data and integrate multiple devices, networks, and services that can be hacked. As a result, it can lead to data leaks, unauthorized access, or system compromise. To address security risks, our specialists:
- Implement encryption, authentication and authorization mechanisms
- Regularly update device firmware and software
- Continuously monitor devices and networks
- Conduct security testing and follow best security practices
Data management issues
Storing, processing, and analyzing large volumes of data can be challenging due to their large volume, variety of formats, and the need for real-time processing. Poor data management can lead to incorrect analysis and flawed decision-making. To deal with big data generated by IoT devices successfully and at high speed, our experts:
- Select a scalable IoT analytics platform
- Leverage edge computing
- Implement automated data cleansing and validation processes
- Use distributed storage and processing technologies
Scalability
As your IoT system grows, you can struggle with infrastructure overload, high latency, data sync problems, architectural complexity, and rising operation costs. If these issues are not resolved, they lead to system failures, data loss, and degraded performance. To ensure your IoT system remains scalable, we:
- Apply microservices architecture and data compression techniques
- Combine cloud, edge, and fog computing
- Use scalable databases and data processing frameworks
- Continuously test system performance under load
High implementation costs
Internet of things development requires major initial investments in software, hardware, connectivity, and cloud infrastructure, as well as ongoing maintenance. With large-scale implementation, costs may increase rapidly and require additional configuration, security updates, and long-term support. To reduce IoT development costs, we:
- Choose cloud computing solutions
- Implement your IoT solution in stages
- Rely on open-source solutions, where possible
- Automate testing and monitoring of the IoT system
