From the Fields of Alliance to the Shores of Atlantic City: The Jewish Journey Through South Jersey, 1880–1980

This program explores one hundred years of Jewish life in South Jersey, tracing the remarkable journey from the agricultural colonies of Alliance, Norma, and Rosenhayn to the thriving Jewish communities of Atlantic City and the surrounding region. Beginning with the arrival of Eastern European Jewish immigrants in the late nineteenth century, the presentation examines how Jewish farmers, laborers, shopkeepers, and community leaders helped shape the social, cultural, and spiritual landscape of Jewish South Jersey over the past century.

From Hot Takes to Hard Evidence: Rethinking the Fight Against Antisemitism

Many discussions about antisemitism focus on outrage, public awareness, and debates over definitions. While these efforts are well‑intentioned, they don’t always lead to real or lasting change. This Lunch and Learn takes a step back to ask the question: What actually works? Drawing on Gratz College’s leadership in Antisemitism Studies, we will look at why some common approaches fall short and why we need a more rigorous, evidence-based approach to understanding and reducing antisemitism. We’ll share examples of how Gratz is already training scholars, practitioners, and communal leaders to move beyond instinct and symbolism toward practical, proven strategies.
