As a Councilmember in the County where Novavax is headquartered (and a Novavax recipient myself), I’ve seen the concerns about FDA approval. I reached out to @Novavax, who confirmed to me that they are in close, ongoing contact with the FDA and expect to have this done very soon.

Montgomery County will work with the state to protect ALL our people. We may need to refuse to cooperate with the federal criminalization of abortion, trans health, etc. the way we have for undocumented residents.

The scientific community widely agrees: LGBTQIA+ people exist & othering them causes bullying, depression, suicide. @MCPS must teach a science-backed curriculum. Where that differs from one’s religious beliefs — whether evolution or LGBTQIA acceptance — can be discussed at home.
Kristin stands with Laura Stewart (MCC-PTA) and Jill Ortman-Fouse (former Board of Ed member) amongst a crowd holding rainbow signs and flags. Laura’s sign says “ALL FAMILIES, ALL KIDS.” Kristin’s sign says “You can’t opt out of LGBTQIA+ existence.”

Today, I introduced the HOME Act with @CMJawando to cap rent increases at 3% (with exemptions to protect landlords’ fair return). Drafted w/ @MontCoExec & input of community orgs like @mceanea @SEIULocal500 @UFCW1994 @CASAforall @jufj, it will provide stability & predictability.
Mink is behind a Council podium next to Jawando and Elrich, on the sidewalk in front of the Council building steps, which are filled with community members holding signs supporting the HOME Act. The sun is shining.

BREAKING: Congratulations to the city of Mt. Rainier and Mayor @CelinaMtRainier for tonight passing a rent stabilization bill which limits rent increases to 3% annually! This is where our region is heading. It’s time to stop allowing rent gouging, and keep people housed!

I stand decisively with our trans & nonbinary community members and with all educators & school staff combatting transphobia as they work to make our schools more inclusive. Voices of hatred only emphasize the importance of our clear, proactive support of the LGBTQIA+ community.
"I stand decisively in solidarity with our transgender and nonbinary community members, and with all educators and school staff combatting transphobia as they work to make our schools more inclusive.

"Recently, a tweet from Bells Mill Elementary School showing a teacher reading a book about a trans child was retweeted by a far-right, anti-LGBTQIA+ account with a large national following. The school and MCPS were inundated with threats, and the evening's PTA meeting was forced to go virtual.

"As some states work to exclude and erase trans people, it is more critical than ever that Montgomery County continue to march proudly toward inclusivity. All children, including trans and nonbinary students, deserve to feel safe and welcome and to see themselves reflected in their school curriculum.

"Voices of hatred only emphasize the importance of our clear and proactive support of our trans and nonbinary community members."

Just got a @Novavax COVID💉with County & state officials & community partners to spread the word about availability & importance of ’24-25 COVID vax! All brands are good, but Novavax is MoCo-based✨ Thanks @GiantFood for hosting & @MontCoExec + many more for getting vaxed w/ me!
A crowd of people in suits and such stand outside for a press conference. Behind them is Giant’s purple pharmacy trailer, open with pharmacists standing inside waiting to give shots. Councilmember Mink speaks at a podium in front of the crowd. The podium has three signs on it: the County seal, a Giant branded placard, and a Novavax placard.
State Delegate David Moon, County Executive Elrich, Novavax Executive Vice President Silvia Taylor, and Kristin sit in the pharmacy trailer with their sleeves rolled up, smiling and laughing together as they await their vaccines. Press cameras are in the foreground.

My 3-year-old has leaned into the belief that Chinese lion dances scare away dragons (/all monsters) for the year, so she comes dressed as a lion 🦁 so they know she’s a friend. Big thanks to @taiyimkungfu for inviting her to feed the lettuce yesterday at Rockville Town Square!
Kristin holds her 3-year-old, dressed in a fluffy full-body lion costume, as she holds a head of lettuce out toward a large yellow Chinese lion.
Last weekend, lion-costumed kiddo stands face to face with a white Chinese lion, mid-dance, outside at the Eden Center.
Chinese lion dance drummers in their black Kung Fu outfits and playing cymbals stand in the doorway of a Chinese restaurant, clearly playing for lion dancers which aren’t visible isn’t the restaurant. Amongst them stands the 3-year-old in her lion costume, peering in through the doorway.

🎉 Regulations for Montgomery County’s rent stabilization law have PASSED out of Planning, Housing, & Parks Committee with committee support! Next stop: full Council! Rent increase limits will then be immediately effective. There is agreement we need to get it done this month!

Renters in our county face great uncertainty in housing costs. Temporary rent stabilization protections expired last August, and we now average 300+ evictions scheduled monthly, compared to 35 last February. I'm proud to spearhead the HOME Act with @cmjawando & @MontCoExec. 🧵
Blue and yellow graphic titled "The HOME Act" next to a little icon of multi-family housing and a tree, over the names "Councilmember Kristin Mink, Councilmember Will Jawando, and County Executive Marc Elrich." Bullet points include: (1) Limits rent increases to the county's Voluntary Rent Guidelines or 3%, whichever is lower
(2) Exempts new construction for 10 years
(3) Allows landlords to apply for rent increases above 3% by filing a Fair Return Petition, if the property meets county housing code standards
(4) Allows landlords to apply for increases for capital improvements

Sgt. Kepp lost his legs in October, trying to stop an erratic driver who may have targeted him intentionally. His recovery is great to see, and he remains a valued part of the @mcpnews force. Thank you to the @Ravens for honoring him.
