We only have 1 rule at Duke and we call it the man’s rule. “Be where you’re supposed to be! Doing what you’re supposed to be doing! As well as you can possibly do it!” David Cutcliffe
I was a 4 year starter in college, but the fans who cheered for me, asked for autographs or pictures don’t call and offer to pay my mortgage or children’s college tuition. I’ve also never been asked my college stats in a job interview. Education will far outlast Football. #Ap2w
A good high school athlete with bad grades is like a great white shark that’s stranded on the beach. Both are generally a casualty of their own bad decisions. #Ap2w
I was a 4 year starter in college, I won a lot of awards and received a lot of recognition, but neither of my 3 daughters have ever asked to watch my highlight film. Don’t take school for granted because you’re a good athlete. Sports will one day come to an end. #Ap2w
Bad grades are not generally the result of lack of intelligence, they are generally the result of laziness, lack of focus, poor work habits, lack of discipline or not having priorities in order. #Ap2w
This was the first time my new born granddaughter and I had a disagreement, but it didn’t last long because what she didn’t know was after 3 daughters her PaPa is a seasoned pro. Welcome to the world my little #LadyBug🐞
When we visit a school in addition to grades we check conduct reports and attendance reports. If you are tardy or absent regularly in high school you’ll probably be tardy or absent regularly in college. This will quickly get you removed from our recruiting board. #Ap2w
If you’re a student athlete and someone constantly has to persuade or encourage you to do the things you’re supposed to do, you don’t really want to be successful, you just want the perks of success. No one should ever care more about your success than you do. #Ap2w
When I spoke to my mentor @DavidCutcliffe several weeks ago, he told me that I’d have options, to be patient and to choose people not places. I was planning to be patient, but I found the perfect people, at the the perfect place. Reunited and it feels so good!!! Let’s go Hokies!
Camp Tip: When a coach asks your name or you introduce yourself always say your first & last name clearly, state where you’re from & what high school you attend, make eye contact and give firm handshake. Your introduction could be what sets you apart from everyone else. #Ap2w
