We have retired seven of our coal-fired power plants and, by 2040, we will to retire the remaining five. Instead, we will generate more electricity from solar and wind farms, large-scale battery storage and other technologies. #MICleanEnergy

We understand the timing of our request is not ideal given today’s cold temperatures, however, without additional reductions, we run the risk of not being able to deliver natural gas to families and critical facilities across Michigan – a scenario none of us want to encounter.

There is a lot we can say, but we understand it won’t make up for the inconvenience caused by the recent power outage resulting from Mother Nature’s wrath our entire state experienced. So, we’ll sum it up with this: THANK YOU.

The death of George Floyd nearly two years ago started an important and overdue conversation in our country about racial injustice. Last week’s death of Patrick Lyoya in Grand Rapids shows that conversation is anything but complete. It’s also clear that the work of dialogue, understanding and healing are no less vital today in 2022 than they were two years ago, or at any point in the past.

We offer our deepest sympathy to the loved ones and friends of Patrick Lyoya. We extend our support to the Grand Rapids community and all people who are affected by this tragedy, and we hope this difficult time can ultimately be a catalyst for meaningful change, in particular for our Black and immigrant communities.

We are deeply saddened by Mr. Lyoya’s death. We must come away committed to continuing our work together to end injustice.

We are providing $12 million to help customers affected by the pandemic pay their bills. The plan is to help at least 25,000 households and 1,000 small businesses with the funding.
