I’ve said this before. I’m going to say it again. A lot of palaeoart is too conservative. This bird’s fossilised remains would most probably contain absolutely no indication of how gloriously weird and wonderful it was when alive. Make. Your. Dinosaurs. Weirder.

I agree with every word Simon writes here… but you can’t talk about the collapse of the climate and the foundations of civilisation whilst using an AI image to make your point. You simply can’t. Please do better, scientists. We need to be on the same side.

I’m convinced that, were it not for the small matter of extinction, Dromaeosaur hatchlings would be competing with cats for “internet’s favourite animal” status. A little digital painting wot I done... and a reminder to Hollywood: dinosaurs were not monsters. 😉🦖

However, our results show that the population bounced back and quickly recovered demographically. In fact, we find that the population size and genetic diversity remained fairly stable up until its extinction 6,000 yrs later, showing that the population was not doomed after all!
