(7/9) Gallium is just one example. China controls more than 70% of the production or refining of 17 of the EU's 34 critical raw materials, creating similar vulnerabilities across industrial and defence supply chains.

Beijingโ€™s critical raw material weapon - And how to dismantle it
Chinaโ€™s critical raw material export squeeze has proven a powerful geo-economic weapon. Initially retaliation against US tariffs and tech restrictions, Beijingโ€™s leverage now advances its far greater

(5/9) Without gallium, there are no gallium arsenide wafers. Without those wafers, there are no wireless semiconductors. And without those semiconductors, there are no modern fighter jets, guided munitions, drones, energy grids or smartphones.

(6/9) But the story doesn't end with market dominance. Beijing is now turning that position into a geo-economic weapon: restricting exports, demanding sensitive information from buyers & using access to CRM to coerce or deter countries that challenge its core interests.
