Spent the morning exploring the Great American State Fair with the @FCC team on the final day in Washington, D.C. It was a pleasure visiting so many state booths and seeing firsthand the ingenuity, entrepreneurship, and creativity on display from across the country.

For decades, radio has forced artists to play "Free concerts" that the station monetizes for themselves in many cases in exchange for airplay. It's a modern version of "Payola." Thanks to @BrendanCarrFCC that starts to end today:

For a long time, many musicians felt like they had to play for free or for reduced compensation when radio stations put on music festivals.
But federal "payola" and related "showola"
After I sent a letter to @FCC sounding the alarm about radio stations taking advantage of artists, @BrendanCarrFCC took decisive action to defend them.
Today’s agreement between the FCC and @iHeartRadio will ensure the creative community is protected from exploitation.
