nela.org.uk/reports#pt NELA shows frailty assoc’d with worse outcome (not new/surprising) but geriatric medicine input reduces mortality (5.9v9.5% in non-frail, 13v22% in frail). But isn’t routine practice! Lots to unpick but chat to @NHSiNet if you want to establish POPS

So pleased to have the opp to talk about older people’s healthcare on radio 4 this morning. To have a functional, quality NHS we have to get (health & social) care right for the largest group of healthcare users - lots we can do but need the resources/platform to get this right.

TY!! So many services to showcase - have a look @GeriSoc website! Including ours @GSTTnhs which like @geriatricsdoc sees around 170 older people a month in ED & supports 70% to get home without needing admission. System level change is possible!! @GSTTGeriatrics @icabbs @NHSGIRFT

Seeing that older people occupy 60% of hospital beds & are highest users of social care, why is DoH/NHSE so slow to involve experts in older peoples care, geriatricians to help provide practical solutions to todays (& future) health & social care crisis? @GeriSoc @adamgordon1978

Just amazing! (Not in a good way). Considering 40% hospital admissions are in those aged>65, 60% of hospital beds occupied by people>65 & that’s before the stats regards older people accessing community health services. Med schools need to educate future healthcare providers?
