Relatives have waited years for redress after the infected blood scandal. They deserve confirmation that their claims are being handled fairly and promptly. They cannot be left at the back of the queue simply because their loved one is no longer alive.

Of all the people I met during my time as an MP, James Peter Mackay, Lord Mackay of Clashfern, was among the most remarkable. A proud Highlander who never forgot where he came from. I’ll always remember our chats before the Inverness flight at Heathrow. I’ll never forget him.
