This is part of my story I’ve never told. Staying alive costs us everything and it shouldn’t be this way.

Your daily reminder that the insulin I’ve used for 24 years, Humalog, has gone from $21 a vial to $275 a vial with no changes to the insulin or even the packaging. That’s a 1200% increase on a hormone every human requires to live, but my body can’t make. I die in 48 hours w/o it

Humalog insulin was $21/vial in 1996 when I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at 14. In 2020, the same unchanged insulin is priced at $275/vial. I die in 48-72 hours without it.

Tomorrow is the 100 year anniversary of the discovery of insulin. In 1921, insulin’s discoverers sold its patent for $1 so insulin would be affordable to all. Today, a single vial of insulin that lasts me about a week is priced at $300+, only in the United States.

A new-gen Xbox console will be priced LOWER THAN a vial of insulin that keeps me alive for a week. $299 v. $324. Imagine having to buy an Xbox every week for the rest of your life, just to survive. This is my America.

Daily reminder the insulin I’ve used for 24 years, Humalog, has gone from $21/vial to $275/vial with no changes to the insulin itself. That’s a 1200% increase on a “product” I die in 2 days w/o. 3 months = $2,267.99. We need federal insulin price caps TO SURVIVE.

Daily reminder that a vial of insulin keeps me alive for a week and, in the US, costs the same as an Xbox Series S. Imagine being forced to buy an Xbox every single week for the rest of your life in order to not die. This is reality for 7 million insulin dependent Americans.
A single vial of Humalog insulin, priced at $320+ by Eli Lilly Co.

No, Lilly, the price for 7 vials of my Humalog is $2,267.99, making the price for a one month supply $756. And I bring receipts, “plain and simple.”

Insulin. Prices. Are. Not. Fucking. Capped. My RX is $541 for insulin from the 1990s. Why is it so hard to just…CAP THE FUCKING PRICE OF INSULIN RATHER THAN LYING ABOUT IT? You want my vote? Stop siding with Phrma and for FUCKING ONCE prioritize patients’ lives.

Inflation is down to its lowest level in over three years. Gas prices are down nearly 50 cents compared to Labor Day last year. Insulin is capped at $35 a month, saving money for millions of Americans. There’s more work to do — but we are delivering.
    Readers added context
The Inflation Reduction Act capped the cost of insulin at $35 for Medicare recipients only. Out-of-pocket costs can still exceed $35 for those with private insurance and the uninsured. pbs.org/newshour/amp/s… nytimes.com/2024/05/04/us/…

My health insurance company has decided that I, an insulin-dependent Type 1 diabetic, only need to test my blood sugar 5 times a day, down from the 6 they previously “allowed” Note to reader: if I only knew my blood sugar at 5 points throughout the day, I’d be dead.

My thoughts on the move by Lilly: 1) this is a stunning admission by Lilly that while 20% of American diabetics ration insulin to survive, Lilly willingly raised prices when they could have lowered them.
