I interviewed for a job with Rashida Tlaib in spring. She asked how I handle stress. I said that like most of my fellow Jews, I use humor as a coping mechanism. She smiled and told me she’d been to a bar mitzvah that weekend — the kid gave a whole sermon about Jewish comedy.

Tlaib is not an anti-Semite. What she is is honest, brave, and uncompromising. The things Congress cannot forgive.

Man, if only there was an independent body—maybe in the Senate or something—which could, like, "oversee" the judiciary. Someone with subpoena power, so the court conservatives aren't investigating the other court conservatives. Wouldn't that be something.

"The streets" did not kill Adam Toledo, Mr. Secretary. A CPD officer did. If you want to talk about mentorship, (itself a deflection from the fact of a policeman killing a 13-year-old), then model responsible discourse, instead of this disgustingly cynical political deflection.

So to get a voice saying it's wrong or unethical for Garland to just reverse Trump-era stances, the Times turned to Jamie Gorelick... ...who represented Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump on ethics issues... ...and that isn't stated anywhere in the Times' piece...

A little thread about how one of our leading pundits’ reading comprehension is a little worse than one would like. FWIW, thanks @mattyglesias for criticizing my piece. I’ve truly arrived as a progressive writer. And hey, more clicks!

A little thread on how life is more complicated than one would like. Here's an American Prospect piece about how it's bad that there are Democratic consultants who also do anti-union work. Fair enough.

He got caught not reporting THESE EXACT GIFTS from THIS EXACT PERSON in 2004, he reported them, then he just went right back to not reporting them!
FILE - In this Oct. 8, 2010 file photo, Associate Justice Clarence Thomas is seen during the group portrait at the Supreme Court Building in Washington. Liberals and Democrats in Congress want Justice Thomas off the health care case. Conservative interest groups and Republican lawmakers say it's Justice Elena Kagan who should sit it out. Neither justice is budging — the right decision, according to many ethicists...

The hospital lobby gave Nancy Pelosi a lifetime achievement award yesterday. I tried to go record audio of it for @LeverNews. Instead, the hotel management took a photo of my ID, and threatened to arrest me for trespassing. Fun!

A genuinely strong argument for nationalizing the entire higher education system is to eradicate the concept of “elite” schools, so upper and upper-middle classes will stop obsessing about getting into them and realize other shit deserves their undivided attention

Make sure you buy several different recording devices, record exactly one audio log on each of them, and scatter them around your neighborhood in hard-to-spot areas.
