MPD is currently investigating a shooting at the Great Mall. Out of an abundance of caution we have asked all stores to shelter-in-place while officers continue assessing the situation. Please stay away from the area and we’ll provide additional updates shortly.

Great Mall of the Bay Area Update 1: Initial reports from social media & other sources that shots were fired at GMBA are unconfirmed at this time. Out of an abundance caution, those inside GMBA have been asked to shelter in place while ofcs conduct a search of the mall interior.

9:44 pm - Two search teams are in the mall but again, no evidence of a shooting. Out of an abundance of caution, the mall was locked down and is still being cleared. Officers remain on scene but there is no immediate threat to the community at this time.

1/3 At about 5:30pm #MilpitasPD received a report of an altercation where someone brandished a knife. Shortly after a shooting was reported inside of Burlington Coat Factory. Officers have checked the business and there is no indication a shooting occurred inside. #GreatMall

7:30 P.M. – Search teams are systematically searching all stores that were sheltering-in-place, and will be escorting employees and customers out into the parking lot. Officers and Detectives remain on scene and are actively investigating this incident.
