If your evacuation plan for your cat is just trying to scoop them up while they sprint under the couch, it might be time for a backup plan. Pack them an emergency kit with food, water, medication, and toys. Don't forget a carrier for the car. #NationalKittenDay #ReadyNC

Standard homeowners’ insurance typically doesn't cover flood damage. Most flood insurance policies have a 30-day waiting period before they take effect, so July is the perfect time to ensure you have the coverage you need for the peak of hurricane season. #ReadyNC

Summer thunderstorms can sneak up on you. If thunder roars, go indoors! Once the storm passes, wait at least 30 minutes after the last clap of thunder before heading back outside. Most lightning injuries happen after people think the storm is over. #ReadyNC

As we continue to experience hot temps this weekend, remember the simplest and most effective way to stay safe: Drink plenty of water! ✅ Carry a water bottle. ✅ Drink consistently throughout the day. ✅ Choose water over sugary drinks. Keep that glass full and stay cool, NC!

Be sure to stay hydrated while outdoors and take plenty of breaks in the shade or indoors is possible. Before heading out, dress in loose-fitting and light-colored clothing. Know the signs of heat illness and know when to seek medical attention.

A Major to Extreme Heat Risk remains for much of NC through the weekend and into early next week. The long duration heat wave with little overnight relief as lows fall only into the mid to upper 70s will impact anyone who does not have adequate hydration and effective cooling.
