This week, a producer actually said to my face, "You need more white representation in your project. You're going to lose the white audience." Should've heard the way I laughed.

2024 life update: Chose myself cause he didn't choose me. Filed for divorce from my cheating husband!

This producer wanted to make sure "white people felt represented." I cannot make this up.

One of the most heartbreaking things about checking social media over the last two days is the stunning lack of basic empathy we have for each other now.

I've never seen so much hate for EEAAO as this week. Reminds me of the hate for Turning Red because a certain *group* didn't see themselves reflected in it. It's sad that AAPI representation in film has to be EXCELLENT to be nominated while we celebrate white mediocrity every day

The glorification of the "starving artist" is so weird to me. The one year I was so poor in LA, I couldn't write anything at all, much less have the mental capacity to think about my stories, because I was only focused on making enough money to survive another month.

Apparently if my protagonist is Korean, I need to surround them with white characters

Three years ago, a high-level writer told me nobody wants my pilot because it featured Korean American leads: "I'm sorry but there aren't any bankable Korean actors." Every meeting I've had this year, execs are specifically looking for stories w/Asian American leads. So suck it.

CREW CALL! I'm producing a horror short with a Korean American wheelchair user lead & an all-disabled crew. I've rarely felt comfortable disclosing my disability for employment purposes, so I wanted to produce a project where accessibility is a priority for everyone involved.

In 2016, I moved to LA completely alone, not knowing a single soul, to take a stab at this wild dream I had of becoming a screenwriter. Almost 5 years later, I can't believe I'm living my dream. Most importantly, I'm proud of the person I've become.

I'd rather read your screenplay than pick you up from LAX.

there's nothing shameful about having survival jobs while pursuing your art.

By far, the worst part of industry networking is people not wanting to talk to you anymore once they realize you can't do anything for them instantly.
