We will examine whether the UK's approach is on the right track to respond to the overlapping humanitarian, governance, security and climate challenges in the Sahel, what lessons it can learn and where it should go now.

Yet more heartbreaking news from #HongKong The Chinese Communist Party and its ridiculous, pathetic, petty, paranoid, cowardly henchmen in Hong Kong are absurd. They are petrified of books. They’re terrified of booksellers. And they’re absolutely scared witless by people who

Today we have seen just how hard countries around the world will be hit by UK aid cuts. Chair @SarahChampionMP has said the announced allocations show a fundamental inconsistency in government policy. Find out more: committees.parliament.uk/committee/98/i…
“The detailed allocations released today illustrate the full extent of brutal cuts to UK aid in black and white.

Whilst crucial to the UK’s development offering, we are yet to be convinced that funding to multilateral organisations, the replacement of bilateral ODA with expertise, or the mobilising of private finance, fully makes up for the impact and flexibility being lost by shrinking bilateral budgets."

International Development Committee
“The Committee is anxious to hear from the Government as to why funding for Lebanon appears to have been cut by 30% in 2027-28 and 2028-29 compared to 2025-26 plans, despite the promise to protect spending. We also want an explanation as to why the FCDO’s ODA contribution to the Integrated Security Fund appears to have been almost halved since the high-level allocations announced in March.”

The Chair of the International Development Committee @SarahChampionMP, has responded to the government’s aid allocations announcement which set out where cuts will fall on a country and programmatic level.
"Decisions on which country will, and will not, receive UK development support really matter; both to the poorest in the world and our international standing.

While the broad priorities of UK aid allocations were presented in March, it is disappointing the Government has waited until the last working day of parliament to set out details."

International Development Committee
"By leaving it so late to come clean, it feels like the Government is choosing to avoid scrutiny."

Chair

Disgusting that this is necessary. But we know it is. Many of us will know that dread, and the all too familiar feeling of creeping over eggshells afterwards. It's not ok, and there is never any excuse. Stay safe, get help if you can.
