Yep. Apparently, earlier, the flames were getting close to the road and traffic was gridlocked. People just panicked and ran. (LAFD says if you DO have to abandon your car, leave the keys. #ProTip.)

I was an extra in the front row. The production told us that we were going to be in a scene featuring an actor playing a motivational speaker. Just react naturally. So when the lights came up, and we saw Cruise, the enthusiastic reaction was genuine.
I took my visiting Mom on one of those Hollywood "Star Tours." The van driver told us over the PA: "Keep an eye out for celebrities!" I rolled my eyes. But, at the next red light, Jeff Goldblum pulled alongside, rolled down his window, and chatted with us 'til the light changed.
The screenplay for this movie is SOOOO good. So many wonderful character moments and dialogue set-pieces.
