The Tank Museum has two First World War tank replicas, one of the German A7V, and one of the British Mark IV. Whilst we don’t run our First World War collection anymore (due to fragility), these replicas do a great job of representing the real thing.

The A7V was the first tank that Germany ever produced. Weighing 32 tonnes, and with a crew of 18 men - it was almost the size of a small house - and was nicknamed by the British the ‘moving fortress’

This is the only of very few running Type 95 Ha-Go's left in the world, and the only one that has come to the UK. It is in private ownership, and after several years in the UK it has now returned to Japan. 🔗 Learn about The Museum’s Type 95 Ha-Go here: youtu.be/LhCsc_rYgA4

🗓️June 30th 1989 – 'Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade' is released The production team came to The Tank Museum for research purposes - they liked the Mark VIII - however, wanted the on-screen tank to have a turret – and took a liking to the Cromwell turret.

6 June 1944: Operation Overlord begins with D-Day. Thousands of Allied men and tanks pour onto the beaches of Normandy and secure a beachhead. Though the Nazis will cling on for some time, this heralds the end of the Reich. For more on the D-Day tanks: youtu.be/lHzBfltvogw
