Now we have a situation where Doctors’ Assistants, unqualified to diagnose, are paid more than actual Doctors. Even with full pay restoration, Doctors would still earn less than these assistants, exposing a ludicrous disparity in the healthcare system’s wage structure!

🧵 I’ve received several unpleasant DMs accusing me of “bullying” AAs. I’d like to publicly respond and clarify my stance on Anaesthesia Associates. I don’t dislike any AA personally, but I strongly disapprove of their role. They’re not medical doctors! 1/

Can’t get a GP appointment. Granny stuck on a trolley in A&E for 12 hours waiting to be seen. Doctors replaced by non-medically qualified Physician Assistants. Meanwhile, doctors without training jobs are delivering pizzas to make ends meet. What a crazy world!

I wasn’t ready for this one… Physician Associate: “You’re basically the Community Support Officer of the medical world.”

Physician Assistant lecturer asks: 'What more could you ask for as a patient?' How about a medical diagnosis from a medical doctor who has spent the last 10+ years lifting those heavy arsed medical textbooks? Much more preferable than a friendly chat with a wannabe counsellor!

Black Wednesday hit hospitals yesterday, with new residents starting training across the country. In theatres, it’s the same old embarrassing chaos: no lockers for belongings, no correct-sized scrubs, swipe cards that don’t work, and no computer access for doctors’ first day. 1/

Consultant Nurse Kate wants to leave the NHS because she lacks a registrar to supervise today: they’re busy with the trauma list at the main hospital! Tough day, Kate? 🙄

Physician Assistants are still in consultation rooms nationwide misdiagnosing patients right now despite the Leng Review recommending NO undifferentiated diagnosis from PAs, while unemployed resident doctors cannot secure GP training posts… Make it make sense @wesstreeting

‘A physician associate told me I’d expect to have stomach aches at my age… it was a tumour.’ Caller Kim, a cancer patient, explains why she supports the doctors’ strike.

1/3 On call today and as usual all 4 theatres are busy. I would normally bring 48 Krispy Kremes in for the masses to boost morale, but I found this Indian sweet shop with amazing fresh warm samosas, so it’s 48 of those today instead.

Off to the #OnCall room, so let me leave you with this: with 540 core anaesthetic training posts available nationwide and 6.5 doctors applying for each, I’m supposed to dedicate my time to the training and updating of AA quaks? I think not!

But they keep saying ‘you’ll earn a fortune as a consultant’! The path to consultant is long and uncertain: burnout, competition, or personal issues can derail it. Fair pay should reward TODAY’S efforts, not rely on a hypothetical high-earning future. Just restore their pay FFS!

This is honestly so embarrassing and I genuinely expected better from you. You have pulled that ladder up behind you with such force I am amazed it is not firmly lodged in your rectum. The gaslighting on top of it all just makes it even worse!

A very long night on call, in theatre since 9pm. Patients’ relatives never cease to amaze me. One father arrived at the theatre doors with three family buckets of chicken, declaring. “an army marches on its stomach.” Moments like these remind me what an honour this job is! 🙏
