Conflict-related sexual violence in #Sudan is a devastating violation of human rights and a weapon of war. The latest @UNHumanRights report highlights the urgent need for accountability, survivor-centred support and action to end impunity. ohchr.org/en/documents/c…

The @UN_HRC stood united in adopting by consensus a resolution on the human rights situation in and around El Obeid in Sudan. With El Obeid on the precipice of an atrocity that could deepen the suffering seen in El Fasher, all parties must act now to protect civilians.

Civilians in Sudan have already endured the worst of atrocities. The RSF must halt their attack on El Obeid. The UK has called today's debate at the @UN_HRC because hundreds of thousands more lives are at stake. The international community must not turn away.

The UN plays a pivotal role in tackling global problems which shape lives in the UK and all over the world. Good to welcome @antonioguterres to London to discuss the situation in the Middle East and Sudan, and reaffirm the UK’s commitment to the UN and its core principles.

Rapid Support Forces (RSF) continue to target civilian infrastructure in Sudan's El Obeid with drone attacks. Foreign Secretary @YvetteCooperMP’s statement ⤵️
“Last year, the world watched in horror as the RSF raped, pillaged, and murdered their way through El Fasher – leaving nothing but devastation and death in their wake. This cannot be repeated.

“El Obeid is on the precipice of an atrocity that will deepen the wounds already inflicted on Sudan in El Fasher.

“I’ve met survivors of El Fasher, haunted by the trauma they went through. We cannot let this happen again.”

I am deeply alarmed by the immediate and escalating risk of new atrocities in Sudan. We have pushed the UN Security Council to agree unanimously that the RSF assault on El Obeid must stop, that civilians must be protected, and that there will be no impunity for the perpetrators

This International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict, we stand with survivors in Sudan. This testimony is a reminder of the violence women and girls face and the urgent need to end it. We support life-saving services and commend partners like UNFPA.
