Andrew E Keesee survived the blast of the HMT Rohna and was in the water with an unconscious British soldier and held on to him. Post rescue, it was determined that Andrew had held onto the British soldier so tightly he broke his collarbone but ultimately saved his life.

Ralph V. Sifuentes died aboard the HMT Rohna in 1943. He was the first Mexican-American soldier from Kansas City’s Westside to die in WWII. American Legion Post 437 is named in his honor. His portrait hangs in Sacred Heart Guadalupe Church and displayed at the Kansas City Museum.

Twins, Glenn and Lynn Rives, were one of the few sets of twins to board the HMT Rohna that fateful day in 1943. They would board together, but depart separately, as tragedy struck the Rives family. Lynn Rives would become a casualty of the Rohna, while Glenn would return home.
