Today we remember Firefighter Fleur Lombard, who tragically lost her life on the 4 February 1996. She received the Silver Axe for outstanding recruit 1994 and was awarded Queen’s Gallantry Medal posthumously. Thinking of her family and Avon Fire on this day. Image © R Lombard

Government figures (2019) show that just 6.4% of firefighters in England are women. WFS wants to see women more visible in the industry and beyond, so more women pursue it as a career, resulting in a more inclusive and equal service. Let us see some of your photos??

I joined Highlands & Islands Fire Brigade in 2000 as an auxiliary firefighter (we were later upgraded to RDS). At that time it was the busiest auxiliary station in the UK but it also lacked any running water or toilets! We had to wash our BA sets in buckets!
