BSC was full of firsts for me. It was my first time in Sweden, my first time at a tech conference. But more importantly, it was the first time I found myself among such an incredible group of people, so brilliant, so funny, so creative, so passionate, so dedicated. It was truly

Wanted to check on a patient, but Windows decided it’s update time. Thanks, @Microsoft for keeping us connected to the traditional ways of doing medicine.

People can’t fathom of something modern working this fast and smoothly. We’re so used of mediocrity in our software it’s refreshing to see what’s possible. We need more stuff like this. Show that software doesn’t have to suck by necessity.

Frame-perfect hover with smooth scrolling. Moving the mouse and scrolling at the same time. Switching the filter on top of that. Using a handmade IMGUI built specifically for this file explorer.

The reason we need better software isn’t just to "shave milliseconds". When a simple build takes minutes, the cost of iteration rewires your brain. You stop exploring ideas and start avoiding them. And that’s fatal, because iteration is the essence of invention. Slow tools

For those interested in a written form of my talk at BSC to skim or search through, I have prepared a lengthy article with lots of content; diagrams, videos, tables, and Desmos graphs that mirrors the information of my talk, it's available on my website:

Yes, I blame MS, you'd think they would be able to update without bricking the entire OS for half an hour.

Visible polygons on Lucia’s arm and seat due to low-resolution textures. (2/7)
    Image
    Readers added context
Visible polygons are not caused by low-resolution textures but by a low polycount, resulting in angular, faceted surfaces. Texture resolution, on the other hand, only affects the quality and detail of the image applied to the model’s surface, not its geometric smoothness. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3D_modeli… en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image_tex…

These systems need books just to explain how to navigate them. The design is so convoluted that you have to decode the architecture before you can touch a single line of logic. This supposed philosophy of “flexible, extensible, maintainable, readable” code is the biggest

OOP people are crazy. They will take the most mundane thing in programming ever - passing arguments to a function, and call it DEPENDENCY INJECTION, and then will sell you books and courses about it.

Explorer? Voyager. Code editor? 10X. Debugger? Raddbg & RemedyBG. Slowly replacing everything horrible about our industry defaults and standards with handmade software. You too can make the switch, and should.
