Man, I love KOC. PS - this is why helmet communication should be legal at the high school level. How many high school QBs could benefit from a positive word in their ear while out on the field?

EMPTY No check releases OL (mainly) responsible for inside gap. Any unblocked rusher has the longest path to the QB. If a Tackle has to choose b/w B gap or C gap, he will choose B gap. Pros: more in routes Cons: Bad vs blitz USE: quick game, non-blitz teams, or for 5 eligibles

ID THE MIKE Mike ID is important in pass pro. In a half-slide, the OL will block the 4 down in an even front and the ID’d Mike LB. RB SHOULD block the other LB (imagine a 4-2). Vs Odd front, the OL should have the Mike LB and the OLB to the side of the Mike LB.

FULL SLIDE All OL responsible for left or right gap, RB responsible for the gap opposite the OL Pros: Gap sound Cons: RB (basically) locked into protection & not in route, potentially blocking a DE like James Pierce Jr. instead of the Tackle. USE: quick game vs DBL A Gap blitz

HALF SLIDE Part of the OL sliding, but leaving at least the Tackle away from the slide so the RB doesn’t have to block the DE like Full Slide. RB will be responsible for a LB. Pros: gap sound, OL on DL Cons: not many, just potentially having RB in vs sim & creeper pressures

MAX PROTECT All TEs, FBs, and RBs check release OL probably on half-slide mechanics, just takes more blitzers to get a free rusher Pros: 7-8 players in protection Cons: less players in routes USE: deep passing concepts w/o play action

Routes on Air for QB practice is reinforcing QBs zeroing in on a WR instead of progressing through the concept. I use RoA to teach WRs their concepts in Indy periods, but if the QB is present, he needs some sort of defensive structure to read and distribute the ball correctly.
