- Ved Mehta was my godfather. He was my first introduction to Indian literature along with Anita Desai, Salman Rushdie and many others. Let's not forget that generation. Also Ved's books are still compelling and beautiful as ever. I recommend.Ved Mehta was a mentor to me. He took me to lunch when I turned 18 to tell me that I was a writer. All his life, he cherished good conversation, the details. He was one of a few Indian writers who made our lives possible. I am saddened by his death. RIP dear Ved.
