after making 140+ angel investments, the only criteria that seems to be correlated with success is the founders’ cash compensation.
the lower the cash comp over the first four years, the higher the likelihood of success.

when I was in college (in the 1990s) I would send cold emails to Steve Jobs (then CEO of NeXT) and Steve Ballmer (then #2 at MSFT).
both would reply within hours ... to a college student
not sure if they're successful bc they're responsive or responsive bc they're successful
