Don’t underestimate the impact of disease resistance when attempting to manage plant diseases. Two different wheat varieties pictured.

I’m positive I missed the part in my job description that read: “qualifications: must love plant diseases and plant pathology so much that you’re willing to bathe in the reproductive material of plant pathogenic fungi” #rusty #southernrust #corn #mscrops @MSUExtService

I am thankful, honored, humbled, and blessed this morning. I won’t forget the collaborative efforts, my former advisors, technical support staff, and the grad students that helped make this a reality #HailState #plantpathology

Had a grad student in a different discipline ask “how can you tell when you’ve got frogeye leaf spot?” Flip the leaf over. Look in the lesion for the fungal reproductive material. FLS lesions will have a gray/silver tuft of fungal growth @MSSOY #mscrops

Do not confuse stripe rust (left) with bacterial leaf streak (right). Bacterial leaf streak is more commonly observed following cold nighttime temps and rainfall post-heading stages. No pustules or sporulation will be observed on leaves with bacterial leaf streak #mscrops

Nothing beats being a plant pathologist. You can spend the entire day contemplating smut.....and NOT offend anyone #plantdisease #plantpathology

Curvularia leaf spot, likely becoming one of the most common diseases of corn in MS. Lesions can be observed throughout the canopy, but are usually most noticeable above the ear leaf. Do not misdiagnose as eyespot in the southern U.S. #corn #plantpathology #mscrops

12 years ago today, May 15, I started my journey as an Extension Specialist in Stoneville. I’m thankful for an amazing group of people that I get to work with each and everyday #HailState #mscrops @MSUExtService

I seriously don’t say this often enough, but living in MS is a plant pathologist’s dream job location. Dodder, a parasitic plant, is typically addressed in introductory plant pathology courses. Something that’s easy to spot at 65+ mph #plantpathology

Walked 800 corn plots this week. I didn’t see a single NCLB lesion. What I did see was more Curvularia leaf spot (NOT eyespot) than you could shake a stick at, a whole bunch of Physoderma leaf spot on our later planted corn, and a little bit of southern rust #mscrops

When you lay down in the mud, in the rain to snap photos, you clearly love your job #plantpathology #southernblight #mscrops
