Grateful for the opportunity to have been part of @ycombinator's F24 batch.
My biggest learning was the motivational power of a well-defined goal and surrounding yourself with exceptionally driven people.
The React docs tell you useEffect is for coordinating outside of React. useState is part of React, so unless you need to set state based on some external event there's no reason to do this.
This is why I use MCPs to feed library docs into Cursor.
I suspect there is a silent cost to that decision those founders are choosing to neglect.
I expect it’s the opposite, that the value of one great senior engineer is massively amplified by AI.
In this era, lines of code are cheap, judgement of what to ship and how is not.
The workflows for building an application vs. doing model experiments are quite different.
I always found the commit thing pretentious TBH. But having spent a lot of time recently building an app, I see why in that context it’s seen as a positive signal.
It is impossible to build effective AI systems without precisely defining the target
@taytothelolz was the most impressive eval eng I worked with at Cruise
Her experience covers the full sim and eval gamut, framework and test development
Lucky to have her!
When I met @raphaelsalaja what immediately stood out to me was his intensity and his genuine passion for building
These are qualities we value at @variantui, thrilled to have him join the team!
Excited to welcome @raphaelsalaja to the @variantui team
The rare engineer with great taste and attention to detail (just look at his work!)
Can’t wait to share who else is joining soon…
PSA: there’s a guy named Soham Parekh (in India) who works at 3-4 startups at the same time. He’s been preying on YC companies and more. Beware.
I fired this guy in his first week and told him to stop lying / scamming people. He hasn’t stopped a year later. No more excuses.
"Pasting a product idea" and getting a meaningful result sounds generous for any non-trivial product
More like pasting one specification at a time for a system of components that the engineer already designed and planned on paper
