It would be helpful under “recent teammates” to highlight the person who just kicked you, so you can block them in return and hopefully never get matched with them again.
So true man. And it gets faster as you get older. People told me, but when I heard it, things didn’t feel so fast. Now half my life is gone and I don’t even know what I really did with the first half.
How to start a new job
I've been thinking about this for a while, because I realized last week that I have a bit of a routine nowadays. I used to focus heavily on the first "task" that a firm gives you to get you up to speed and so on. Lately, not so much. 1/
Thoughts on writing trading strategy monetization:
The lower latency you go, the more tedious the state management gets. If you can do your trading with a CSV upload of market-on-close orders to your broker, do it! If it needs a broker algo every hour, do that.
Are young people generally trying to optimize their career more than we used to?
I don’t recall being so fraught about what to work on lest my future be irreparably compromised, but I’m not sure if it’s a selection bias, in me, or the young people I am exposed to now, or what…
One reason I think it’s really important for engineers and quants and traders to sit together and work closely is alignment of belief systems and incentives. If they are functionally siloed, quants start to get blamed for OOS disappointment, engineers get blamed for downtime…
This is a widely-held and extremely dumb opinion. There is no “cheating” in real life, we’re not at school… there is only Doing The Work. If you aren’t using all the tools at your disposal then you are a poser, a gatekeeper and a fool, and your days are numbered.
I’m as guilty as any, but real edge is less complicated than people think IMO. It’s not “I’m good at programming” or “I know economics”, it’s literally (and maybe tautologically) a trade that makes money and a reason to believe will continue to. If you have it, it’s obvious.
Speed Is An Option
If you are fast, you can make mistakes, try again, scratch your trades, try a different model, try a tactic…
If you are slow, every idea has to be perfect, and failures are viewed as failures to plan enough. Subsequent ideas have to be even more perfect. 1/2
Recruiters are really going nuts, is it that crazy out there? I just can’t bear the thought of doing more coding questions. Like, why can’t we just have our portfolio in a huge folder like civilized professions. Why must I do it in front of you, live, with the wrong keyboard?
