Golden hour? Nah, this is legendary hour. Coconino National Forest offers a field of sunshine with a side of dramatic skies. Drop a pin, drop your jaw and hit the trail in your big backyard. (Forest Service photo by Deborah Lee Soltesz.)

Less waste packed in means less waste packed out! 🗑️ Before you hit the trail, break down your food packaging at home or use the trash cans at the trailhead. Keep your campsite clean & protect wild habitats by keeping garbage to an absolute minimum.🐕 fs.usda.gov/about-agency/f…
At the trailhead, Cross and Halleaux remove the excess packaging from the food and supplies they are taking to their dispersed campsite. Their dog, Elvis, waits patiently on his leash. It is much easier to properly dispose of these items at the waste receptacles at the trailhead, rather than packing it all to the site and back. (Forest Service photo by Savannah Halleaux)

Choosing your camping vibe? Say less. Developed campgrounds = the “I like toilets and trash cans” era. 🚽🗑️ Dispersed camping = the “I’m basically feral but in a fun, outdoorsy way” era. 🌲⛺ Whichever you pick, stay safe and enjoy your big backyard. ✌️

Great American State Fair is celebrating family life & community support. There are so many recreation opportunities on our national forests for the whole family to enjoy, like this family enjoying Sliding Rock in the Pisgah National Forest in NC. #Freedom250

Keep drones grounded near wildfires. Unauthorized flights force firefighters to halt air operations and delay critical work. Help protect communities by staying clear of fire zones.
