The speed with which Beijing are using this law to make arrests is alarming. These charges are vaguely defined and carry disproportionate sentencing.

The presence of mainland Chinese troops on the street of Hong Kong marks an escalation of Beijing's presence in Hong Kong, even if only clearing bricks at this stage. Unsolicited action by PLA troops in HK is in breach of Article 14 of the Basic Law. #standwithHK

This money was raised to support the legal fees of those facing political prosecution, crowdfunded by Hong Kongers. The freezing of these assets is appalling, and sets a dreadful precedent in one of the world's major financial centres.

#BREAKING: The police have arrested four people for money laundry and frozen HK$70 million worth of donations to support people who were arrested during the #antiELAB movement. So far, it is the first financial investigation case regarding the movement. #HongKongProtests

The only way out of the political crisis in Hong Kong will be a political solution and ultimately de-escalation. If HKPF use lethal force, it will make this kind of settlement near impossible.

Hong Kong Police, Carrie Lam, Xi Jinping: Pull back from the brink. Do not use lethal force. If you commit another Tiananmen massacre, u will not only destroy Hong Kong but China too. The world is watching. The world will not tolerate a massacre #StandwithHK #DemocracyForHK

HKPF's attack on and occupation of the Chinese University of Hong Kong was an unnecessary abuse of power which has led to large numbers of injuries of young students. The indiscriminate use of tear gas must stop, and there should be an independent inquiry into police brutality.

News of mass disqualifications of democrats taking place today in Hong Kong. The Hong Kong government have today disenfranchised the majority of the population by barring the representatives who receive the lion's share of the vote.

Singapore successfully held an election despite having higher daily and total case numbers. We are concerned that the Hong Kong Government are using public health as a pretext to stall the democratic process.

We strongly condemn the arrests of pro-democracy activists who stood in last year's democratic primaries. Beijing is once again undermining Hong Kong's democracy & breaching its obligations under the Sino-British Joint Declaration.

Tonight's scenes of police targeting CUHK with tear gas and rubber bullets are a disturbing escalation in tensions that increases the risk of further casualties. The HK Police must not resort to excessive force that is liable to cause protesters serious injury, or worse.
