Yet another example tonight of why the whole premise of a closed Super League is bullshit. Villarreal are from a tiny town, and have beaten Manchester United, Juventus and Bayern in the last 12 months. Why would you willingly lose stories like that?

This is why I’m always saying state ownership should’ve been banned from the outset. How are football authorities supposed to clamp down on clubs if they are owned by nations? There’s always going to be a blurring of the disciplinary process if governments are involved.

This partial sale of #mufc to INEOS is working out well for the Glazers. They get to use INEOS as a shield, but never ever let it be forgotten that they took one of the great institutions of global sport, loaded it with debt and took the club backwards at every level. A disgrace.

Just occurred to me that football’s so good for teaching kids stuff. Helps with geography, pronunciations in other languages, history (talked to the kids about the old Yugoslavia team the other day) and a whole host of other things. Half my general knowledge comes from football.

Liverpool played every game there was to play in every competition last season. They have played high-intensity football year after year, game after game. They were so close to a quadruple. Why can people not understand that a hangover was inevitable? No panic required. #lfc

The idea of a Saudi team or indeed any non-European team gaining access to the #UEFAChampionsLeague should be resisted with the same fervour as the opposition to the Super League. I’d rather see more places given to Norway or Hungary or Belgium.

A bit more on Endo for #lfc fans (I have no inside track on whether he’s coming) He was a massive part of keeping a poor Stuttgart team in the #Bundesliga in the last 2 seasons He tackles until he drops, he’s disciplined, and he’s got great energy. You could get 2/3 good years.
