Nolan Arenado had texted at least one #STLCards player more than once over the past year to tell him how much he’d like to play in St. Louis. The Cardinals have always been motivated to get guys who want to be here.

In the visiting clubhouse at Busch Stadium, a laminated list of Adam Wainwright's favorite restaurants in St. Louis hangs on the wall. It's organized in categories like, "Date night," or "casual eats." Its purpose is simply to inform the opposing players so they enjoy STL.

I realize I should be tweeting arbitration stuff, etc., but I've been informed my contract at The Athletic will not be renewed. Best of luck to that enterprise and now I am curious and excited to see where my skill set can land me. Thanks for reading and following.

Not to get sappy here, but the young core of pitchers this #STLCards group has in Jack Flaherty, Jordan Hicks, Dakota Hudson, Alex Reyes, Ryan Helsley, et al., seems not only brilliantly talented and prepared, but also fundamentally decent as human beings. Kudos to their parents.

I heard an agent recently describe Rockies GM Jeff Bridich as the “worst communicator in MLB.” That seems to be a big aspect of this whole thing, amazingly.
