Medical Specialties as Dog Breeds 1. General/Trauma Surg -> German Shepherds Hardworking, sharp, and confident. Will save the day, dependable in crisis. Can be very intimidating but are friendly once you get to know them and very loyal.

“Nobody likes abortions.” I do actually. I like that people don’t die from ectopic pregnancies or sepsis from missed abortions. I like that people don’t have to bear the pregnancy of their abuser. I like that people get to make choices about their body.

I’m not hedging about abortion rights. I’m simply not. Even if we do get universal healthcare or free child care, people are still entitled to abortion & other reproductive rights. Period.

You can be deeply passionate and committed to something and still not want to work 100 hour weeks the rest of your life. That’s sanity not laziness & yes I will die on this hill.

I wish patients didn’t feel like they had to apologize for their bodies. You don’t need to apologize for dirty hair, no makeup, scars, lumps and bumps and rolls, smells, blood or bowel movements. I did not go into medicine for bodies to come to me conventionally “perfect.”

(A “missed abortion” is a miscarriage that the body has yet to deliver and is instead more or less stuck in the uterus btw. For non-medical folks.)

In medical school I got told I would need to reschedule my doctors appts or be failed on the rotation rather than give me time off. Med students here come in and say “hey I have a doctors appt I need to leave by 1 today” and we say “okay!” and I think that’s beautiful ❤️

I once referenced the heart’s “ejaculation fraction” in case you needed to hear someone else having a more embarrassing medical school moment than you this week
