An excoriating review of the flawed data and lack of evidence that was used to promote "inclusive" language in maternity services. If not for pushback from clinicians the NHS would have spent £100k on the basis of an "unreliable and invalid" 'study' archive.ph/0K1Ky

Not specifically health, but there is a lot of comment on Twitter today about this @BethRigby interview. It is a masterclass in how to be persistent, but polite, when an interviewee refuses to answer your questions news.sky.com/video/beth-rig…

Hello @Waterstones, can you reply to our member @hannahsbee confirming when Time To Think will be available in all your stores. Apologies to Lady Bracknell, but this is beginning to look a little more than carelessness

Hi @Waterstones, just wondered if you knew when Time to Think will start arriving in your stores? It’s just you’ve had hundreds & hundreds of copies in your warehouse for weeks, but people can’t currently buy one in Wales, all of Surrey, or most of the UK’s major cities🧵

NHS information on women's health has been updated — and uses the word 'woman' throughout. A welcome step. Clarity in health messaging is crucial. Trans people require, and should receive, specialist info and care

Informed debate is essential. @PeterTatchell could you please share references to these studies? @Transgendertrd has published this explainer (with references) which challenges the concept of a gendered brain. Have they missed something? transgendertrend.com/brain-research/

Gender identity is just as real as biological sex Both are equally valid And now scientific studies show that trans brain structures & processes are different from those of non-trans people This means that trans identity has a material, biological basis #StandWithTrans
    Readers added context
There is no functional difference between men's and women's brains. Therefore, it's not possible for someone to have a brain that resembles the other sex. neurosciencenews.com/brain-sex-diff… sciencedirect.com/science/articl… The myth that men and women have different brains arises from faulty science motivated by misogyny: nature.com/articles/d4158…

Thoughts: Is gender dysphoria a mental health condition, which thus requires NHS treatment? Or is it an identity, which is not a medical condition and should not receive NHS treatment?

Should we use 'gender neutral' language when reporting health and medicine? And why are there these sorts of inconsistencies?

.@Healthline, could you please explain why you believe women have their sex assigned at birth, but men are males? This is inaccurate, confusing and discriminatory. healthline.com/health/prostat…

Like @senseaboutsci, the MJA promotes evidence-based science and journalism. There will be a wide range of views on this any many other issues within our membership. Attempts to shut down debate of challenging subjects highlights the importance of the #MaddoxPrize

Naomi Cunningham is a barrister who specialises in employment and discrimination law, and chair of the human rights group @SexMattersOrg. Her analysis of the recent NHS Confederation guidance on supporting trans and non-binary NHS staff is illuminating
