We need to start normalizing that software engineering can be a 9-to-5 job. It's ok to not live, eat, and breathe tech 24/7. It's ok to be in tech bc it's a lucrative job that pays the bills. You don't need to be passionate about tech to be in tech.

Hi all! I have some news to share. After the Microsoft @github acquisition of @npmjs , I was part of a sizeable round of layoffs. (More on this soon) After taking some MUCH NEEDED time off, I'm happy to share that I've recently accepted a role as a Principal Software Engineer..

Dear dev teams: If you are not Amazon, please don't try to architect your apps as if though you need to support that type of scale. Keep your architecture simple. Trust me. The maintenance burden alone will crush you. Time wasted solving problems you don't have hurts your users.

Ummmm, and I’d like to thank the EU for doing what our floundering government has been unable to do. For God’s sake, even the biggest capitalists will agree that regulation is necessary. Unregulated markets are not good for consumers or businesses.

SO excited to finally announce that I joined @stripe as a Staff Engineer. I'll be working on open web infrastructure that enables businesses, & solo pros across the globe. Thank you to every person, lesson, & struggle that led me to this moment. What a humbling next chapter!🙏🏿💜

Hi America! I'm a Somali American first gen & my soon to be husband is a Korean American first gen. A few months ago we were at Trader Joe's and a woman called us a family when talking to her young daughter. I almost cried. This is a new America - our love story is America ❤️

I've noticed "girl job" is often synonymous with "glue job". It's the less visible underlayer of work that makes ALL the other work possible. Our recency bias towards final outcome & visible layers of work devalues this critical foundation groundwork of building roads & bridges.

It's occurring to me that I have a unicorn set of skills for an engineer: principal level, standards experience, distributed services experience at extreme scale (npm), enterprise experience, startup experience, multilingual, community organizer, speaker, teacher, woman, black.
