    A lender offered me $110K with a "simple 8.8% fixed fee. No interest, no surprises." That "no interest" was the tell. A fixed fee isn't an interest rate — you pay it in full even as the balance drops. Run it as an APR and that "simple 8.8%" is 21%. Credit-card territory. The

    Most Amazon sellers read the fee on a loan offer. Almost nobody runs the APR. I tore down a real $110K offer — the "8.8% fee" that's actually 21%, and a flashier one that pencils out to 175%. Two tests decide if borrowed money grows you or chokes you.
