DYK #SenateParks fountain consists of 3 separate components: main basin, lower level basins + reflecting pool? ⛲️ Water is piped underground from the basin to three sculpted bubbler fountains in the terrace's north wall. From there water is again piped to the lower level pool.

The first public reading of the Declaration of Independence was #OTD 1776, when it was officially proclaimed in Philadelphia. 📜 Scene depicted here on a panel of the U.S. Capitol's House wing bronze doors by Thomas Crawford. #America250 🇺🇸

Everyone who attended our Spirit of '76 Jubilee had a great time, including the 13th Architect of the Capitol, Thomas E. Austin. Thank you, Mr. Austin, for joining the fun and helping us celebrate 250 years of the United States! @uscapitol
A person in a suit stands smiling in front of a backdrop that reads "Spirit of '76 Jubilee" with a design of stars and fireworks. They are holding small festive signs, one with an American flag.
A person in a suit and red tie holds a cake shaped like a top hat with red and white stripes and white stars on a blue band. The background shows a kitchen setting.
A person in a suit hands a slice of cake on a plate to a child wearing a baseball cap. They are standing in a cafeteria setting with kitchen equipment and plates visible in the background.
Four people stand together smiling in a kitchen area. The person second from the left holds a cake with a red, white, and blue design resembling the United States flag. Two people wear badges, including a shirt printed with "Spirit of '76 U.S. Capitol."

A group of people is gathered around a table at an event. One person is holding a plush bald eagle. The table displays several brochures and a sign featuring the United States Capitol.
A person is giving a presentation to an audience seated in a dimly theater space. The audience watches a large screen displaying images and text related to American history. An American flag is visible, and the room's architecture features classical elements.

Besides our flag, the bald eagle is perhaps the most emblematic symbol of American freedom and democracy. 🇺🇸🦅 These are just a few examples of this majestic bird soaring within spaces on the U.S. Capitol campus: aoc.gov/explore-capito… #America250

Our Curator, Dr. Michele Cohen, is in the Capitol Crypt for the Magna Carta's anniversary (sealed #OTD 1215). This entire display was made in England by artist Louis Osman, who had also crafted the crown for the investiture of Prince Charles. 🪎 #CapitolExtra #America250
