Cookiebot – Cookie Banner & Cookie Consent for GDPR, CCPA & Google Consent Mode

Description

The world’s most trusted cookie consent platform — now on WordPress.

Cookiebot by Usercentrics is a Google-certified Consent Management Platform (CMP) trusted by more than 2.4 million websites. Install the plugin to add an automatic cookie banner that scans your site, blocks cookies until visitors give cookie consent, and shows a clear cookie notice, helping you comply with GDPR, CCPA and CPRA, ePrivacy, LGPD, PDPA and 40+ other privacy laws. No code needed, and you can start on a free plan.

Whether you run a blog, a WooCommerce store or a multisite network, Cookiebot handles consent collection, cookie scanning and consent signals to Google automatically, so you can spend your time on your site instead of a compliance checklist.

Automatic cookie scanning & declaration

Cookiebot crawls your website and automatically detects and categorizes all cookies and trackers — even those added by third-party scripts. Your cookie declaration stays up to date with every scan.

Prior-consent cookie blocking

Cookies are blocked before consent is given — exactly as GDPR requires. Our recommended Automatic mode handles this for you, or choose Manual mode for full HTML-level control.

Fully customizable consent banner

Match the banner to your brand with custom colors, logos, fonts, and layouts. Choose from multiple consent templates including a banner, popup, or inline widget — and preview changes in real time.

Global cookie repository

Powered by Cookiebot™ continuously updated library of known cookies and trackers, so your declarations are accurate from day one.

Google Consent Mode v2 ready

Certified by Google, Cookiebot CMP supports Google Consent Mode v2 out of the box — protecting your Google Ads and Analytics data while staying privacy-compliant. Essential for maintaining ad measurement in a post-cookie world.

Seamless integrations

Works with Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics, WooCommerce, Shopify, HubSpot, Mailchimp, and dozens more. One plugin. Your entire stack.

Cookiebot CMP is officially certified under the IAB Transparency & Consent Framework, making it the right choice for publishers and advertisers managing programmatic consent.

Consent storage & audit log

Store end-user consents for up to 12 months with a full, auditable record — ready for regulatory review or legal proceedings.

Support when you need it

FAQ

Is Cookiebot free, and how much does it cost?

Yes, you can start on a Free plan for one domain with up to 50 subpages. Paid plans are priced per domain and scale with the number of subpages on that domain. See current plans and prices: Cookiebot pricing. You can start free and upgrade from the Cookiebot Admin whenever your site grows.

Is my site eligible for the free plan?

If your site is one domain with up to 50 subpages, you can use Cookiebot for free, with automatic cookie blocking, Google Consent Mode and a cookie scan included. When your site grows past 50 subpages, upgrade to a paid plan sized to your page count from the Cookiebot Admin.

Why am I being offered a trial?

The trial lets you experience the product before deciding. If you’re not ready to upgrade after the trial, you can continue on the Free plan.

What is cookie consent?

Cookie consent is the permission a visitor gives before your website places non-essential cookies on their device. Most privacy laws, including the GDPR, the ePrivacy Directive and the CCPA, require you to ask for and record this permission before tracking begins. Cookiebot shows the banner that asks for it, stores a record of each visitor’s choice and holds back non-essential cookies until they agree.

Why do I need a cookie consent solution?

Collecting valid consent by hand doesn’t scale as your site and the regulations evolve. A CMP like Cookiebot™ automates detection, categorization, banner display, and signal handling so you stay privacy-compliant with less manual work.

Can visitors revoke cookie consent?

Yes, and they have to be able to. Most privacy laws require you to make revoking consent as easy as giving it. The Cookiebot™ banner includes a “Change consent” button that visitors can access any time to update or withdraw their preferences.

Do you need to store cookie consent?

Yes. Under GDPR and most similar laws, you need to be able to prove that a visitor gave consent, when they gave it, what for, and what version of the banner they saw. Cookiebot™ stores these consent records automatically so you have documentation if a regulator asks.

What are the benefits of using Cookiebot?

Cookiebot™ is the pioneer of cookie consent management, used by 2.4M websites today. Key benefits:

  • Automatic site scanning
  • 13,000+ entry cookie repository
  • Banners in 47+ languages
  • Consent Mode support across Google, Microsoft, and Amazon
  • 99%+ customer retention

Do I need a Cookiebot account to use the plugin?

Yes. The plugin connects your site to Cookiebot CMP, which runs the banner, scanner and consent storage. You can create a free account from the plugin’s setup screen or connect an existing one. Either way, your banner goes live as soon as the account is connected.

Where do I find my Cookiebot ID?

Your Cookiebot ID (also called the Domain Group ID) is in your Cookiebot account. Under manual implementation, copy only the part after cbid=, without the quotation marks. Paste it into the plugin settings in WordPress and click Connect Account. Your banner goes live straight away.

My banner isn’t showing on my site, what do I do?

First, confirm that your Domain Group ID is correct in the plugin settings. If it still doesn’t appear, open the Support tab, copy the debug info, and contact support so we can check your setup.

How do I customize my banner?

Open the Cookiebot Admin. You can adjust layout, colors, texts, and buttons to match your brand and choose how choices are displayed.

How can I check my cookie scan results or repeat them?

Go to the Cookiebot Admin to view scan results. You can also trigger a new scan there whenever you update tags, plugins, or embeds.

How do I show my cookie declaration on a page?

Add the Cookie Declaration block in the block editor, or use the [cookie_declaration] shortcode. It lists the cookies found in your latest scan and updates with every scan. You can also trigger a new scan from the Cookiebot Admin whenever you add tags, plugins or embeds.

Does Cookiebot block cookies before consent?

Yes. In the recommended Automatic mode, scripts and cookies that need consent are blocked until the visitor agrees, as the GDPR requires. Manual mode gives you HTML-level control if you prefer to mark scripts yourself.

What information does Cookiebot log about visitor consents?

For each visitor consent, Cookiebot™ logs:

  • An anonymized identifier
  • The consent state (which categories were accepted)
  • The URL and IP-based country where consent was given
  • A timestamp

We keep proof of consent without identifying individual visitors personally.

Does Cookiebot work with WooCommerce?

Yes. It works with WooCommerce and blocks tracking such as Order Attribution scripts until consent is given. Cookies your store needs to function are not affected.

Does Cookiebot work with Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics?

Yes. It works with both and passes each visitor’s consent choice to Google tags through Google Consent Mode v2. Google tags then adjust their behaviour based on what the visitor chose.

What is Google Consent Mode and how can I use it with Cookiebot?

Consent Mode lets Google tags adapt to each visitor’s choice. Cookiebot sends that consent status automatically, so conversions from consenting users are tracked as usual, and non-consenting visits are handled in a privacy-safe way to reduce data gaps in your reports. Result: clearer conversion visibility and steadier campaign optimization, without custom code. Just enable Consent Mode in the Cookiebot Admin.

Does Cookiebot support Google, Microsoft, and Amazon consent signals?

Yes. Cookiebot™ is a Google Gold Tier certified CMP partner and configures Consent Mode v2, Microsoft UET, Microsoft Clarity, and Amazon Consent Signal automatically once the script is on your site. No manual tagging required.

Does Cookiebot integrate with the WP Consent API?

Usercentrics Cookiebot is fully integrated with the WP Consent API. When your visitors give consent using Usercentrics Cookiebot, the consent will automatically be sent to the WP Consent API.

How easy is it to implement the Cookiebot CMP on your website?

Very. Install the plugin, create a free Cookiebot account or connect an existing one, then paste your Cookiebot ID into the plugin settings. Your banner goes live straight away, and Cookiebot handles the rest: scanning, blocking, banner display and consent logging.

Can I switch to a different legal framework?

Yes. The Cookiebot by Usercentrics plugin for WordPress supports multiple legal frameworks by allowing you to set up separate banner configurations for different regions or countries. To do this, enable “Multiple Configurations” under the Multiple Configurations tab in the Cookiebot plugin settings, then add banner configurations for the specific regions you want to support. This setup uses separate Domain Groups for each configuration and the data-georegions attribute in the Cookiebot script to display the correct banner based on the visitor’s location, for example one for GDPR and another for CCPA/CPRA. You can run multiple configurations, as long as only your primary Domain Group contains your actual domain.

Can agencies & freelancers use Cookiebot on client sites?

Yes. Each client site is its own domain in Cookiebot, and multiple domains are handled on paid plans. Agencies and freelancers can also join the partner program to earn on client sites: Become a partner.

Is Cookiebot GDPR compliant?

Cookiebot covers the technical side of cookie compliance: it scans your site, blocks cookies until visitors consent, shows the banner and keeps consent records. Full compliance also depends on your privacy policy and how you handle visitor data, so review your setup with a legal advisor. The Usercentrics Privacy Policy Generator plugin can help with the policy side.

What are the requirements for GDPR cookie consent?

Under GDPR, valid consent must be:

  • Freely given: no denying service for declining
  • Specific: per purpose or cookie category
  • Informed: visitors know what they’re agreeing to
  • Given through a clear affirmative action: pre-ticked boxes and implied consent from continued browsing don’t count

You also need to store proof of consent and allow easy revocation.
