Hypergrid Business Reports Growth For Land Area & Active Users – May 2026 Update

Maria Korolov who is the Hypergrid Business editor and publisher has just published May 2026 latest OpenSim stats showing OpenSim’s land area and active users both increased this week. OpenSim is still growing every month it appears which is good news for those that are active residents on OpenSim grids.

OpenSim’s land area and active users both increased this week, despite the fact that a couple of large grids didn’t report stats.

The public metaverse gained the equivalent of 591 standard-sized regions this month, and 1,275 active users for a total of 149,536 regions and 48, 376 actives.

OpenSim registered users went down this month due to EdMondo which was down apparently.

The total number of registered users went down, by about 15,000, mostly due to the fact that EdMondo — an educational grid that had over 10,000 registered users last month — was down. In addition, Logicamp, which had over 7,000 registered users last month, did not report any user numbers this month.

SL23B Regions – 16th May 2026

Mid May 2026 Update

Since my last SL23B blog post back in early April 2026 there has been some new noticeable changes over at the SL23B regions on the grid. Today there are more SLB regions that have been added, more transformation that has happened and building is now underway for Second Life 23rd birthday celebrations next month.

Second Life 23rd birthday (SL23B) celebrations start 18th June 2026 through until 19th July 2026. There will be a full month of live performances, live music, community exhibits and grid wide celebrations around the grid.

Second Life official birthday is 23rd June 2026 and there will be many grid celebrations that will be taking place. The theme for this year’s event is “The Golden Age of Hollywood” focusing on vintage glamour, classic cinema, and the “magic of the silver screen”.

Linden Lab first announced SL23B back on Friday 27th March 2026 and preparations are way underway with just weeks left to go until the grand opening. There will be more lab announcements in the weeks ahead most likely as we get nearer.

SL23B Applications Closing Soon

SL23B applications close on Monday 18th May 2026. There is still time to apply over this weekend if you are interested in participating.

SL23B Adult Regions

In the east of the main SLB regions there are adult rated regions which will be open to the Second Life birthday celebrations. In recent weeks these regions have been transformed and new builds are being set up.

I will blog more on SL23B developments and news in the weeks ahead. I am looking forward to SL23B and blogging about it like in previous years. I’m sure it’s going to be very interesting and fun again.

Patch Linden At Jail & Bail 2026 – Fantasy Faire In Second Life

Patch Linden attended Jail & Bail at this year’s Fantasy Faire in Second Life.

This event was publicised as “one more for the road” following the announcement of Patch Linden’s departure from Linden Lab.

Check out the goodbye party video below which runs for 1 hour & 36 minutes.

The future of the Bellisseria development may see some changes following the departure of Patch Linden in May 2026.

The Meet The Moles at SL23B (if it goes ahead this year) will be interesting to see who will take the lead of the Moles going forward.

This was definitely one of the most popular events of the fantasy faire in terms of attendance and regions are pretty much full.

Patch was involved in many areas of Second Life including…

  • Linden Department of Public Works (LDPW) which is responsible for building public infrastructure.
  • Linden Homes & Bellisseria: He was the primary visionary behind the massive Linden Homes project and the creation of the Bellisseria continent.
  • Frequently appearing at “Meet the Lindens” sessions during Second Life Birthday celebrations and hosting “Lab Gab” live streams.
  • Attended Virtual Worlds Best Practices in Education (VWBPE) events. Attended Christmas Expo events and many more over the years.
  • Involved in critical policy updates such as the Child Avatar Policy.
  • Supported resident-organized charity events like Relay For Life and the Fantasy Faire.
  • Posted new Linden Home announcements on the Second Life Forums
  • And much more!

Patch will be missed by the Second Life community.
