Pointless Random Plot Generator
For all your gaming needs! Well, for all your super-hero gaming needs! Well, okay, for probably none of your *actual* gaming needs, but if you want to generate plotbits on the spur of the moment, I have a chart for you!
This does not require:
1) Specific character knowledge
2) Villains with character sheets
3) Any particular team size (works for solos or teams)
This will work best with:
1) 2d6 and at least one d10 (You can roll them online)
2) An urban setting
3) A non-gritty-realism setting
Instructions: Roll 2d6, and read them as X-and-Y, rather than adding them. (So: 2 - 3, or 5 - 5, or whatever.) Consult Column 1 for source or cause of The Event. Roll again; consult Column 2 for the actual Event. Roll again and check Column 3 for some random other detail to incorporate--potentially, this is what drew the hero's attention to The Event.
If more detail is desired, roll in the (etc) column with a 10-sider (or 6-sider). Etc. breakdown for Column 2 contains 4 sections: People, Places, Things, and Organizations.

A barista - sleep/unconsciousness - small useless magic items: A Starbuck's is giving out "magic pixie wands" as part of a promo; one of the baristas has started waving it over the coffees before she gives them out. About an hour later, the person drinking the coffee falls asleep; this is causing *horrible* traffic problems. Oh, and probably injuries and maybe deaths.
The sewers - Mass combat/gang war - buildings talk to people: Two rival gangs have been claimed ownership of a particular block because the sewers have an abandoned service center that's great for clandestine meetings. They've been tagging the buildings above it to lay their claim, and hostilities have risen to the point of open gunfire in public.

I... wow. I'm trying to focus on only three different ideas for that, but my brain keeps trying to give me more.
