The ExitMap® Story and Our Founder
The first step in any journey is to decide how you will get there. For that, you need a map. The map doesn’t explicitly tell you how to go. It quantifies your options. How long will it take? What roads should I use? If I take a side trip, how far out of my way must I go? Can I get there in the time I anticipated, or do I need to plan for contingencies?
ExitMap® is a structured coaching system developed specifically for business owners who are considering a transition from their businesses. Every interview form and spreadsheet were crafted from tens of thousands of hours of practical experience coaching business owners.
Our tools, combined with our unique hands-on approach to coaching advisors in their use, are proven to increase engagements and build deeper relationships with clients.
The ExitMap® process was created by an accomplished business owner coach to help other advisors become better coaches for their clients. Multiple surveys have shown that 75% of business owners are dissatisfied with the results of their transitions.
We believe that if you want your client to be happy for many years after their exit, the coaching conversations you have at the outset are critical to your long term success.

ExitMap® Founder and CEO
John F. Dini is The Exit Planning Coach™. Over the past 25 years, he has provided over 25,000 hours of face-to-face guidance, direction and leadership to entrepreneurs in virtually every industry. He is known for his candor, integrity and practical business experience as an owner of multiple companies in manufacturing, distribution and services. John continues to spend over 50 hours a month in face-to-face coaching and consulting for business owners, and only business owners, who run companies from a half-million to a half-billion dollars in revenue.
In 2011, John began focusing on helping owners prepare for transition from their companies. He created the ExitMap® Assessment of owner and company readiness in 2017, and the ExitMap® Express™ coaching process for Advisors in 2019. He now divides his time between working directly with business owners and teaching advisors how to better coach their clients through business transitions.
John has written four books for business owners, including 11 Things You Absolutely Need to Know about Selling Your Business (2012), and the award-winners Hunting in a Farmer’s World (2015) and Your Exit Map (2017). His latest book for advisors, The Exit Planning Coach Handbook, was published in 2022.
A graduate of Rutgers (BS, Accounting) and Pepperdine University (MBA), John also holds seven additional certifications in exit planning, behavioral profiling, management and (of course) coaching.
