I like Max Dalin's books: Лестница из терновника, Запах разума (I wrote about that one before).

He just started publishing online his new book: Семя скошенных трав. He swears that he wrote this book few years ago. He could not find a better time to publish it.

Max Dalin draw exaggerated picture in this book.
Politicians look too inept (not able to prevent the escalation of the conflict).
Journalists look incompetent and not able to grasp what is actually happens.
The whole society in multiple countries lost the ability to get correct information.
Sheds are way too stubborn and revengeful to their own detriment.

> wow you actually read the book!

I did not read science fiction of that size for many years.
I probably will not read science fiction for many years again.
Science fiction, usually, gives oversimplified and too exaggerated mental model.
Good for educating teenagers, but too simplistic for adults.

> IRL I do see inept politicians

Of course there are inept politicians and journalists in real life. 99% of everything is crap.
But in Max Dalin story about the ending of Shed civilization, ~99.999% of society succumbed to a very significant distortion from reality. Why would that happen?
The society which is not able to correctly understand reality -- is not able to create weapons that evaporate oceans.

> This is one of solutions of Fermat's paradox.

Collective distortion of reality (CDoR) does not really explain the Fermi paradox, because CDoR leads to the civilization decline and disintegration. Then one of the children that have smaller distortion of reality than the siblings [civilizations] - starts dominating the world.

The most likely explanation of Fermi paradox is that the Space is vast, and it is too hard to travel far and fast enough in order to colonize anything outside of civilization's original star system (Solar system in case of human civilization).
