Hello, new instance! If you're seeing me refollow you, I'm off of Fosstodon.

If either Mike or Kev had stayed, I would have as well. But "under new management" never works out well for anyone, so it's time for me to move on.

@amin

I wanted to give you a heads-up, and it's not for sure yet, but I may be moving instances.

It has nothing to do with you. GTS's UI is not good, and I really want to host fediverse comments. I'm so close, I have them there, but there's no way for anyone to actually reply to the post from the post itself, since it just leads to the GTS UI, which isn't intractable.

I love polymaths. I may make a different, personal account, so I can have a presence here. But I really want to stop paying for blog comments.

I didn't want you to find I'd gone and think I was leaving because of you or your instance. If GTS was a bit better, I'd definitely stick around.

Ha! Got it. Now every time I publish a hugo post, it will post here on GoToSocial with the blog's tags as hashtags. Then it will get crossposted to bluesky. That's pretty good.

New Dactyl Manuform ordered. I could tell in just a few hours I wasn't going to be happy without one.

Money I didn't expect to spend. I'm going to sell some of my keyboards and tech to pay for this. It's time to stop collecting.

I'm really going to miss my Dactyl. Even if I end up buying a new one, which I'm not sure about yet, it will be weeks before it ships.

I could build my own, but I'm shite at soldering and I would still need to buy a kit since I don't have a 3d printer.

I will say that the Alice is comfy and sounds great. So it won't be a horrible wait.

Dactyl Manuform officially broken

While I was trying to figure out why I was getting all of these false key presses, I decided to clean everything with a full disassembly. As I did that I heard rattling coming from inside the case.

There was a screw that had come undone somehow, which caused some of the ribbons to misalign. They don't use pcb, but instead these flmsy ass ribbon cables that have to be aligned just so.

Turns out, because that screw was out, the cables are all frayed and ripped in one spot. I'm trying to decide if I want to even bother talking to the guy who makes these things or not. It is out of warranty, so I doubt much could be done.

I really don't want to buy another keyboard. I've been so good this year. But I'm going to miss having a split.

I've moved back to the alice for the moment. I may just get a proper wrist rest for this and stick here for a bit.
